New this winter at the YMCA Cape Cod
will be Jacki Sorensen Step Aerobics and
Choreographed Weight Training in the early
morning, Low Impact Aerobics,Powersculpt
and Beginner Pilates during the day, as well
as Turbo Jam/Cardio Kickboxing. Evening
classes will include Pilates and exercise
ball classes. The winter session begins the
week of Jan. 8th and registration begins

CPR/AED classes
The American Red Cross has planned
Adult and Infant & Child CPR/AED classes
for December to be held at the Chapter
House on 286 South St. in Hyannis. Various
dates and locations are available to schools,
businesses, professional rescuers, clubs

classes available are: Babysitters Training,
First Aid, Community CPR, First Aid/CPR/
AED for schools and community, and CPR

In honor of women's heart health, The
American Heart Association is encouraging
women to take part in heart healthy activities

Feb. 2, and consider attending the Go Red

The Young at Heart/PACE exercise
program, a combination of weight train-
ing, aerobic, endurance and flexibility

DVD helps children who
stutter
A DVD starring children who stutter is
available at the Centerville Public Library
and the West Dennis Library. The video is
aimed at acquainting children who stutter
with others who also stutter and are handling
the challenges.
Daily Christian recovery
group
The Christian Recovery Fellowship holds
a daily meeting on Mondays from 7:30 to
8:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army Worship and
Services Center on North Street in Hyannis. j
The open-discussion, Christ-based meeting
is designed to provide a safe, confidential
environment for those "searching, strug-
gling with alcohol, drugs, hurts, habits,
shortcomings or hang-ups of all kinds."
Meetings are open to all and free of charge.
The group has been meeting since 2002.

Link Van will be at RHCI the first Monday of
the month from noon to 4:30 p.m. for free
health screenings. The aphasia community
group meets the first Tuesday of the month
from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Food Addicts in Recovery
Anonymous meets Sundays from 9:30 to 11
a.m. The Well-Spouse Support Group meets
every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.
Healthy Hearts outpatient cardiac rehabilita-
tion programs are offered at 6 a.m. The MS
Support Group meets the third Sunday of
the month. Post polio support group meets
the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m.
Hearing screenings are held the second
Wednesday of each month by appointment.
RHCI offers aStroke Peer Visitation Program.

A changes and loss support group meets

Cape Cod Healthcare's mental health
arm , Behavioral Health Services of Cape
Cod Healthcare, has a one-stop telephone

and other concerns.
VNA has home health
technology
The Visiting Nurse Association of Cape
Cod offers in-home telemonitoring tech-
nology. The Honeywell HomMed monitors
collect vital signs including heart rate,
blood pressure, oxygen saturation and
body weight , all in three minutes. Call

VNA offers van, interpreters,
more
The Visiting Nurse Association of Cape
Cod has a 28-foot van that travels throughout
the Cape to link underserved individuals and
families with health education and preven-
tive screening services. Blood pressure,
cholesterol, blood sugar and more may be
tested at the van. Another unique service
the VNA offers is interpretation and tele-
interpretation infive languages: Portuguese,
Spanish, Haitian Creole, Persian and Italian.

trained in Choke Saver Certification. Stop

the South Yarmouth Plaza near the Registry
of Motor Vehicles for bargains.
VNA offers exercise class
Join a Young at Heart exercise class for
a 10-week run and improve your ticker in
just one hour, twice a week. A small fee and
doctor's approval are needed. Senior Care
Management Services are offered by the
VNA. For an assessment of an individual's

Young at Heart Senior Weight Training pro-
gram is held twice a week for 12 weeks.
Bereavement groups
The Visiting Nurse Association of Cape
Cod Hospice Bereavement Program offers a
support group designed for men who have
lost a loved one. The group meets at the
South Dennis office of the VNA, 434 Route
134. A Bereaved Parents Support Group for
those who have lost children meets Mondays
at 1 p.m. at the VNA, 67 Ter Heun Drive in
Falmouth where volunteers are available
for childcare. Other bereavement support
groups are available, including loss of a
pet, parent, grandchild or friend. Call 800-

Alzheimer's support in
Dennis
Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living
Center of South Dennis hosts an Alzheimer's
Support Group on the second Wednesday
of the month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Call

Parkinson's exercise class
The Dennis Council on Aging is sponsor-
ing a one-hour program featuring various
gentle exercises to help strengthen the
upper and lower extremities, including the
j core muscles, for the purpose of enhanc-
ing flexibility and balance for people with
Parkinson's. These exercises are not exclu-
sive to those with Parkinson's disease, and
are open to people with other neurological
issues. Classes will be held Mondays and
Fridays from 9 -10 a.m. There will be a total
of eight classes with a fee of $32. For more

Parents helping parents
Parents Helping Parents, a self-help sup-
port group, offers free weekly meetings for
parents to share understanding, information,
and ideas. The Hyannis meetings are held
Wednesday evenings. The group is looking
for volunteers with good interpersonal skills.

Cape Cod Healthcare has a Living With
Cancer education support group that meets

Breastfeeding Center
offerings
The Center for Breastfeeding, 327 Quaker
Meetinghouse Road in East Sandwich,
offers free lactation counseling, yoga for
babies and tots, a Mom's Club, pumps and

your baby, sing-alongs and more. "Mothers
and Multiples," for those with, or expect-

Join the Dennis Free at Last Group, a
support group for smokers who want to
quit. It meets Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.

A free Reiki clinic is held every third
Thursday of the month at the Center for
Healing Therapies/Reiki By the Sea, 15 West

The Barnstable CountyAlzheimer's Collab-
orative offers a program called Safe Return
for those with Alzheimer's disease and their

Support on bipolar disorder
A support group for parents and caregiv-
ers of children and adolescents with bipolar
