Osterville Village Christmas Open House & Stroll
They've been hosting this
party for 37 years, so you can be
sure they've got it right!
Osterville's homage to the sea-
son combines the charm of shops
in a seaside village with the
reverence of an outdoor ecumeni-
cal creche service that brings the
whole proceedings to a halt for
about half an hour at 6 p.m.
Until then and after then
on Dec. 15, the stores will be
packed with shoppers taking
advantage of special offers, the
streets thronged with people
enjoying outdoor music perfor-
mances or sampling pizza , chow
der, subs, soup, and more.
There's much to enjoy dur-
ing the day, but the heart of the
stroll is from 5 to 9 p.m. on the
15th. Main Street and Wianno
Avenue are turned into car-free
zones, and free hayrides and
trolley rides delight all ages.
Santa makes an appearance at
the Osterville Village Library.
There's an afterglow celebra-
tion on Saturday, the 16th, during
the day when outdoor music will
be presented again and many of
the stores will hold open houses
and offer specials.
Don't forget to stroll down to
Armstrong-Kelley Park to enjoy a
festival of lights and other treats.

Centerville's Old Fashioned Christmas Stroll
s*»¦
g-
rom 4 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 10, Main Street will be
v^y^
closed to traffic from
Old
Stage Road
to South
KI
S Main Street , recreating the walking village at the
heart of Barnstable. Historic homes will be decorated with
wreaths and lights, making it easy for strollers to imagine
they've slipped into another century.
There 's fun up and down the street , including stroll-
ing carolers, performances by the Barnstable High School
Christmas Band and Chorus and the Dennis Yarmouth High
School Christmas Winds Choir, and some of your favorites
from Frosty the Snowman, Rudolf , a North Pole elf, and old
Santa himself.
New sights will include a bear carver (we assume that's
someone who carves bears as opposed to an ursine artist),
an antique muster fire truck , and a Christmas village with
train display at Four Seas Ice Cream. The recreation build-
ing will have a crafts show, as will the Centerville Library,
which will also welcome Professor Readalot , who'll offer
magic and storytelling.
Other recommended indoor stops include CHIPS House
and South Congregational Church for music as well as the
Centerville Historical Museum. The last-mentioned has
many Christmas-themed rooms to show how the season
was celebrated in Colonial times, the 1870s and the 1950s.
All that walking and listening is bound to make you
hungry, and you'll find stations along Main Street providing
hot dogs, chowder, hot chocolate, marshmallows, and much
more.
It's all free, and all are welcome.
