Hyannis West Elementary School Coun-
cil meets every third Wednesday of the
month from 5:30 - 7 p.m. All meetings are
open to the public with a period of public
comment at the beginning of the meet-
ing. The council next meets on Dec. 20.

MATH NIGHT: The first Math Night of
the school year was held on Thursday,
November 30. Children and parents
expressed their enthusiasm about the
evening and the various math related
activities that they explored together.
Additional Math Nights will be scheduled
in the months ahead.
PTO MEETINGS: The Hyannis East PTO
has started a new year of support and
enrichment activities. All Hyannis east
parents and grandparents are urged to
participate. Meetings are held on the
third Wednesday of each month at the
school beginning at 7 p.m.
GET TO KNOW FRED: The next FRED.
Night (Families Reading Every Day) is
scheduled for Wednesday, December 13.
from 6:30 to 7:30. Bookmarks will be
given to everyone and Clifford the Big
Red Dog will be making a visit.
IN SEARCH OF A GOOD BOOK: Hyannis
East is looking for children's book dona-
tions that can be given to students as
part of its "Library in the Home" pro-
gram. Books can be dropped of any
school day between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30
p.m.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: Don't
forget to purchase your Holiday Raffle Cal-
endars. They willbe available through Dec.
21st and make great holiday gifts!
SPECIAL EVENTS: There are a number of
classes involved in Community Service
projects this year. Some have done things
for nursing home residents, some col-
lected food for the destitute, some have
sent cards and candy to the soldiers in
Iraq, some will be doing a read-a-thon for
the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund. Others
are collecting items for the Baby Center
in Hyannis. This is not a complete list;
however, we want to let all of you know
that we are fostering a sense of commu-
nity throughout the school. We also want
to recognize the caring children and staff
here at Centerville Elementary!
RECOGNITION: Thank you Mad Science for
providing workshops for each grade level
throughout the school. All of the children
enjoyed working on the projects and learn-
ing about science!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: In the
spirit of giving this holiday season, the
students and families of MMEHMCPS
will be participating in a local fund-rais-
ing project to benefit our own commu-
nity through the Cape Cod Times Needy
Fund... This project is called "Pennies for
People." The Students will be encour-
aged to do good deeds or be helpful at
home over the coming weeks. Parents
are asked to observe the good deeds and
donate pennies or change to their child.
The children will then bring any coins
into school and share with their class-
mates the good deeds they have done to
contribute to this charitable fund.
SPECIAL EVENTS: The 3rd grade class
will have their annual "Hat Making
Project" on Tuesday, Dec. 12. For this
event the children will be creating fleece
hats, one for a baby, and one for them-
selves. When they complete this project
the baby hats will be donated to a local
charity and each student will have a hat
of their own to show for all the hard work
that they put into this charitable event.
RECOGNITION: This month we would like
to recognize one of our fourth graders,
Matthew McKean who is a Weeblos Cub
Scout with Pack 54 for all the hard work
he has done this past week collecting
non-perishable foods for the "Champ
House" in Hyannis. Matt would also like
to recognize the other boys in his den
who were also collecting for this chari-
table event.
P.T.O.GENERAL MEETINGS: There will
be no PTO. meeting for the month of
December. We will meet again on Wednes-
day, Jan. 10, at 6:30 p.m. Board of Trust-
ees meetings will be held on Monday,
Dec. 18 in our Library at 6 p.m. We invite
all parents to attend these meetings.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS. On Dec.
12, there will be a half-day of school for
our students for a Teacher In-Service
Day. There will be no breakfast or lunch
served, however, there will be day care by
advanced registration only.
NO PTO: There will be no PTO meeting
during December.
PUPPETS SHOW: Mr. Erhard's third grad-
ers will present a puppet show on life
cycles of animals on Wednesday, Dec. 13,
at 7 p.m. in the Osterville Bay cafeteria.
A CHORUS LINE: Our fourth grade chorus
will be having a busy month of sing-
ing holiday songs, beginning with the
Osterville Stroll on Friday, Dec. 15. (Let's
hope it doesn't rain this year!) They will
travel to OES for a concert on Monday,
Dec. 18 at 9 a.m. They will perform for
the Bay on Wednesday morning, Decem-
ber 20 at 9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon
for their families at 2 p.m.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: At the
close of the First Semester the children
of BHMCS were recognized by the Mile-
stones Committee for their individual
accomplishments in the following three
categories; Academic Achievement,
Citizenship and High "Five" Personal
Best. We encourage all the students at
BHMCS to strive for excellence and we
will continue to assist your child to meet
their goals.
RECOGNITION: We at the BHMCS would
like to recognize the generosity of our
Parent communty for the successful
contributions to the BHMCS Food Drive.
The Salvation Army, Independence
House, Angel House, and NOAH Shelter
will be receiving hundreds of pounds
of food to fill their pantries to feed the
needy of Barnstable.
IMPORTANT MEETINGS: The Parent Cof-
fee Hour is an informal way to communi-
cate your issues, concerns or ideas that
you feel would benefit BHMCS. So come
in and share a cup of "joe" and some
treats to ward of the cold (if it should
become chilly) and meet with the Admin-
istration, we love to have you.
SEASON OF LIGHT: As we draw closer
to the seasonal celebrations , stories that
illuminate the best of the human sprit
are most appropriate. You may wish to
mix it up with various passages from the
very many cultures that celebrate this
time of year with so many interesting
traditions. We at BHMCS hope that this
season is enjoyed through the shared gift
of reading.

SPRING TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C:
All students interested in traveling to
Washington DC this spring should attend
an informational meeting for students
and their parents on Monday, December
11th, at 7:00 PM in RM 1202. A represen-
tative from the Close Up Organization
will be here to explain the program and
answer any questions. This is a fantastic
opportunity. Ask your Social Studies
teacher for details.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED. The Cape
Cod Child Development is looking for
volunteers to help with a Holiday Cel-
ebration on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Any time you can give will be
appreciated. Stop by 1105 for more info.
WANTED- USED SNOW GEAR. The Ad-
venture Club is having a Used Snow Gear
Swap in the field house on Saturday from
12-3pm. Bring your used gear to sell, then
buy someone else's used gear! See Ms.

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Big
Brother Big Sister agency needs your
help with wrapping presents on Dec.12

THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY will be
hostii.g a Holiday Bake-off Extravaganza
on Wednesday Dec. 13, in the Main Cafe
from 2:30-4 p.m.. Everyone's a judge. The
cost is $5 at the door, which gets you all
the desserts you can eat, and entry for a
door prize. Faculty and Students wishing
to bake some delicious treats must see Mr.
Eno in RM 1227 by Friday, December 8th,
for an application (Entry Fee is $5 -there
will be prizes for top three entries). Live
music will be provided, and all proceeds
will benefit Dress a Live Doll.
HAVE YOU BEEN TARDY LATELY? Do
you need a way to avoid another Satur-
day School? You only have until Dec. 19
as the Trading Post and the U.S. Marine
Corps Reserve are sponsoring a Toys for
Tots toy drive. Students who donate
new and unwrapped toys will receive 2
demerits off and staff will receive a large
coffee.
