Children and parents expressed their enthusiasm about the evening and the various math related activities that they explored together. Additional Math Nights will be scheduled in the months ahead. PTO MEETINGS: The Hyannis East PTO has started a new year of support and enrichment activities. All Hyannis east parents and grandparents are urged to participate. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the school beginning at 7 p.m. GET TO KNOW FRED: The next FRED. Night (Families Reading Every Day) is scheduled for Wednesday, December 13. from 6:30 to 7:30. Bookmarks will be given to everyone and Clifford the Big Red Dog will be making a visit. IN SEARCH OF A GOOD BOOK: Hyannis East is looking for children's book dona- tions that can be given to students as part of its "Library in the Home" pro- gram. They willbe available through Dec. 21st and make great holiday gifts! SPECIAL EVENTS: There are a number of classes involved in Community Service projects this year. Some have done things for nursing home residents, some col- lected food for the destitute, some have sent cards and candy to the soldiers in Iraq, some will be doing a read-a-thon for the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund. Others are collecting items for the Baby Center in Hyannis. This is not a complete list; however, we want to let all of you know that we are fostering a sense of commu- nity throughout the school. We also want to recognize the caring children and staff here at Centerville Elementary! RECOGNITION: Thank you Mad Science for providing workshops for each grade level throughout the school. All of the children enjoyed working on the projects and learn- ing about science! This project is called "Pennies for People." The Students will be encour- aged to do good deeds or be helpful at home over the coming weeks. Parents are asked to observe the good deeds and donate pennies or change to their child. The children will then bring any coins into school and share with their class- mates the good deeds they have done to contribute to this charitable fund. SPECIAL EVENTS: The 3rd grade class will have their annual "Hat Making Project" on Tuesday, Dec. 12. For this event the children will be creating fleece hats, one for a baby, and one for them- selves. When they complete this project the baby hats will be donated to a local charity and each student will have a hat of their own to show for all the hard work that they put into this charitable event. RECOGNITION: This month we would like to recognize one of our fourth graders, Matthew McKean who is a Weeblos Cub Scout with Pack 54 for all the hard work he has done this past week collecting non-perishable foods for the "Champ House" in Hyannis. Matt would also like to recognize the other boys in his den who were also collecting for this chari- table event. P.T.O.GENERAL MEETINGS: There will be no PTO. meeting for the month of December. A CHORUS LINE: Our fourth grade chorus will be having a busy month of sing- ing holiday songs, beginning with the Osterville Stroll on Friday, Dec. 15. (Let's hope it doesn't rain this year!)
