Homestead acts The Barnstable Historical Commissionvoted Tuesday to delaydemolitionofa1750house and more youthful barn at 330 OldHomesteadDriveonMuddy Pond in Marstons Mills. Liza Cox, an attorney rep- resenting property owners Red Horse LLC, spoke for the request to demolish the buildings, which would be replaced by a new residence and a stable. CommissionChairmanNancy Clark read a letter from histo- rian Jim Gould that reviewed thehistoryofthe site, knownas the Isaac Crocker Homestead. He called the home the oldest example of a Cape Cod style cottage in the Newtown area of Barnstable, noting that it wasoncelocated onthe town's "frontier." The house is among the 30 oldest buildingsinBarnstable, according to Gould, and has enjoyed rather stable family ownership. It wasownedbythe Crockersfrom 1750to 1853and the Joneses from 1853to 1957. It wasn't until 1950 that the plumbing came indoors. Responding to a question, Cox said the owners do not intend to incorporate any part ofthe originalhouse or bam in the new buildings. They have offered to makethe structures available for moving,or to do- nate materials from them, and will allow officialphotography , . to document the site. 'v The commission voted . unanimously for a six-month ' demolition delay, informing . thebuildingcommissionerand „;; townclerknottoissueapermit duringthat period.Duringthat , time, the building's eligibility* for inclusion in a historic reg-* ister district will be reviewed '* and options for preservingthe buildings can be pursued.
