The Sachem Speaks . . .
SAME PROBLEMS, SAME PRAYER
How would a Plymouth Pilgrim , returning to Earth , react
lo a modern Thanksgiving celebration ? He would probably feel
right nt home, after his first bewilderment , for though the
appearance of America has changed , the thoughts of her peo-
ple have not.
Today 's Thanksgiving turkey is processed instead of fresh-
ly dressed, the vegetables are frozen or canned , and the table
is polished instead of crude. But though nuclear weapons arc
now the danger instead of Indians, the fear of war and death
,lnesn 't change, and the things that we arc grateful for—peace ,
a free country, the land 's abundance , and our homes and fam-
ilies are the same things for which the Pilgrims of long ago
bowed their heads and gave thanks to God.

WANTED : RECOGNITION !
One letter—is that too much to ask for a girl who has given
of her time to practice and to inarch at football games and in
parades in all types of weather ?
Of all the groups in the school the majorettes are the most
unacknowledged. After the football season they are virtually
forgotten , but they continue to practice throughout the winter.
Honor members of the orchestra and band receive cer-
tificates, and cheerleaders are given letters and sweaters for
their services at games. What does a majorette have to show
for the time she has put in? Only tired limbs and her picture
in the yearbook.
How about, some sign of appreciation for these girls who
are always ready to do for their school !

BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES
"These are the best years of your life ". How often have
we been told that , and how often have we dismissed it with
a haughty toss of the head as just another adult idiosyncrasy .'
But those of us who will graduate this June are begin
ning to realize just how wise these words are. The cheery hello 's
as we pass our friends in the corridors , the amiable relationshi p
of student and teacher , the games when we frantically cheer
on our team , the Saturday ni ght dances.
Most important of these are the friends who will be leaving
us—some to attend college , some to work at various jobs , still
others to enter into marriages. Even those to whom we only
say an occasional "Iii" are a very real part of our lives .
Wh y not make the most of these friendshi ps now .' Kind
words , thoug hts and deeds will be to no avail when all our
classmates have gone their various ways. Save those harsh
words ; instead , be ready every instant to do a kind deed in any
way possible—now !

WEAK IN QUANTITY,
NOT IN QUALITY
Wo wero weak! Not on the field
and not In our cheers. We were
weak in our band.
Throughout the year we have had
the privilege of wiiti hing hands
from the other school put on excel-
lent performances between tho
halves of the football games. A
hearty cheer should go to Simon
(lesln and Company for their ef-
fort , but they lucked the manpower
needed to compete with the other
schools.
Barnstable High School doesn't
lack capable musicians , but it docs
need students willing to give up a
little of their time for their school
