Artists are invited to bring a piece of their work and their own camera equipment to the seminar, where they will learn how to take professional photographs of their own work for reproduction in print and digital media, and for build- ing a successful portfolio. College admissions 101 Cape Cod Community College invites prospective students, family members and friends to learn about the application process, financing options, transfers and other issues on Saturday Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Tilden Arts Center. The morning starts with a Continental breakfast and registration, so partici- pants are encouraged to arrive just a bit early to enjoy coffee, juice and pastries. Sponsor a child for Christmas The Salvation Army Hyannis Corps is seeking sponsors for its Dress a Live Doll program, which matches children 12 and younger from at-risk families with sponsors who provide a complete outfit of warm clothing. This year, more than 1,000 children have been accepted into the pro- gram. Sponsors can be individuals or groups. All gifts are due in by Dec. 2. Call 508-775-0364. Help for teen parents Cape Cod Child Development is currently accepting applications for enrollment in its Teen Parent pro- gram, available to parents 19 and younger. Art workshops for kids in Cotuit Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit, will offer monthly workshops instructed by Michelle Law for children ages 6 to 12 on the second Sunday of each month from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The fee for each workshop is $25 and pre-registration by the preceding Wednesday is a must. Learn about the Coast Guard The U.S. Coast Guard Heritage Museum at the Trayser on Route 6A in Barnstable village presents the artifacts and stories of the life-saving service. Teens invited to rec nights The YMCA of Cape Cod, Route 132 in West Barnstable, hosts a Kids Night Out Program when children are invited to swim, play sports, create arts and crafts and more, each Friday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Staff-su- pervised. Kindermusik for children Preschool music classes for ages 18 months to 4 are ongoing at the South Congregational Church in Centerville for $9 a class. CIGSYA activities The Cape & Islands Gay & Straight Youth Alliance has a dance room, cyber center, library, TV room and game room as well as sev- eral programs and activi- ties. CIGSYA is located at 56 Barnstable Road in Hyannis and serves people 22 and under. Circle for Youth meets from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays at the club house. Activities include creative writing, visual art, dance, theater and more. A new conversational group for people who have questions about gender meets the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 8 p.m. Call for details. Admission is free to $3. Grades 7 and 8 are invited to teen dances the second Saturday of the month from 7:15 to 9:45 p.m. Admis- sion is free to $5. Around the Cape Greenbriar Christmas Fair Nov. 18 Old Mother West Wind's Christmas Fair will take place Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road (off Route 6A) in East Sandwich. This year's fair includes the raffle of a handmade children's quilt (tickets available now for $1 or six for $5), a bake table, homemade chowder and chili and more. Admission is free. Call 508-888-6870. Fun at Camp Lyndon YMCA Cape Cod is inviting chil- dren to join in a unique celebration of Thanksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich. "Mayflower Madness" will give children ages 6 to 12 a chance to show off their culinary and artistic skills as they prepare, cook and decorate a Thanksgiving feast for their families. Play Santa to a needy child Community Action Committee of the Cape and Islands is launching Make a Child Happy, designed to help clients and their children this holiday season. Similar to the Dress a Doll program , Make a Child Happy will provide donors with a child's wish list and clothing size.
