SPring- 8-9039 CHRISTMAS BAZAAR The annual Christmas Bazaar ot Our Lady ot Victory Guild will be held in the church hall, South Main St. from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Satur- day, Nov. 18, With Mrs, Stephen B. O'Brien, Jr., serving as general chairman. The ladies of the guild have held weekly work sessions and a variety of articles will be on sale. Tables and their chairmen are as follows: Food, Mrs. Gilbert Bearse; Toys, Mrs. William Col- leary; Religious articles, Mrs. Ar- thur D. Maddalena, Sr.; Christmas decorations, Mrs. Robert Elliott; White elephant table, Mrs. Walter E. Baker , Jr.; Grab bag, Mrs. Hey- worth, George Backus ; Snack bar, Mrs. Joseph Silvia; Gift table, Miss Kay Dooley and Mrs. Mary Mc- Devitt, co-chairmen. Mrs. Raoul Beaudreau will serve as cashier with Mrs. Stephen B, O'Brien, Sr., in charge of special gifts. Mrs. James J. Cannon and Mrs. Arthur D. Maddalena, Jr., are in charge of hall decorations. THE VILLAGERS About 50 people attended the monthly covered dish luncheon meeting of the Villagers held In the vestry of South Congregational Church Nov. 8. A short business .session conducted by president Samuel Gore Included several an- nouncements and reports by Rev. Harry Meyer and Mrs. Raymond Burnham of the cheer committee and by the secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Gore. Mrs. Everett O. Hiller introduced Mrs. Peter Palches who in turn in- troduced Dr. Russell Cole of West Dennis, ex-presldent of Cornell Col- lege, Iowa, who gave a timely and informative talk on "The People of Russia." Dr. Cole, with several other educators, visited Russia two years ago. Hostesses In charge of the ' luncheon included Mrs. Frederick Powers, Mrs. Theodore Edwards, Mrs. Ernest Crocker and Mrs. Charles Rcldt. WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP Devotions on the subject of "Sharing Ourselves with Others" led by Mrs. Everett O. Hiller opened the monthly meeting of the Women's Fellowship conducted by the presi- dent, Mrs. Louis Serpico. The busi- ness session Included reports of officers and announcements of the Harvest Fair and baked bean and ham suppr to be held in the church vestry and education building Thursday, Nov. 30, plans for In- dividual or group "Give A Party" projects, and the used clothing drive as well as appreciation ex- pressed to all who helped in the rummage sale, dish towel shower and Christmas gifts to state ward projects, Mrs. Warren Johnson introduced Mrs. T. Walter Wannte, Sr., who spoke on the Second Mile Mission- ary Gift and on this year's four point projects of Friendly Service and Mrs. Stanly Buckler, social ' action chairman, who introduced the ladles who spoke on the rest and nursing home project: Mrs. Newton Carlson who told of the Red Cross course; Mrs, Robert Dottrldge, social action chairman of Cotuit Women's Fellowship and Mrs. Spinney of Mother Spinney's Rest Home which has been "adopted" for social action by the fellowship. Slides of fellowship activities and church flower arrangements were shown and a social hour was en- Joyed with Mrs. H, Allen Davis, Mrs. Robert Parmenter and Mrs. Raymond Perry serving as hostess- es. GUILD MEETING The monthly meeting of Our Lady ol Victory Guild was conducted by Mrs. Bradley Parker , president. Final plans were made for the Christmas Bazaar. Chairmen ap- pointed to represent the guild in District 5 of the Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Church Women include Miss Dorothy Fawcett, Christian doctrine; Miss Mary Cross, Catholic charities; Mrs. Reginald Sawyer, family and parent education; Mrs. Albert Hurley, or- ganization and development; Mrs. Wm. Arthur Smith, spiritual deve- lopment; and Mrs. TJbaldo Nugnes, youth. Hostesses were Miss Dorothy Fawcett, Mrs. Charles Baxter , Mrs. Harold Howe and Mrs. Nugnes. CONGRATULATIONS To: Mr. and Mrs. Irving Harrison of Harbrook Village, Falmouth Road, who recently observed their 44th weeding anniversary and have returned from a visit with their children and grand children in Stroudsburg, Pa. To: Mr. and Mrs. Philip Baker of Richards Lane who are parents of a daughter Cynthia Anne born Nov. 8 at Cape Cod Hospital. Mrs. Baker is the former Barbara A. Sheldon. Grandparent honors go to Mr. Chester A. Baker of this village and to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sheldon of Greenwich, Conn. To: Mr. and Mrs. Bernholdt R. Nystrom of Laurel Road who are parents of a son Carl Alan born Nov. 8 at Cape Cod Hospital. Mrs. Nystrom Is the former Jean Nancy Erikson. Other members of the family are Stephen and Paul. Grandparent honors go to Mr. arid Mrs. Nils Erikson of Melrose arid to Mrs. Carl Nystrom of Maiden with great grandparent honors go- ing to Mr. Otto Sundberg of Mel- rose. To: Miss Diane Ballard of Main St., this village who was crowned first annual Barnstable High School football queen at the Jaycec Pumpkin Hop, recently; to Miss Saunie Chase, also of Centerville, and to Miss Sandi Cooper of Hy- annis who were named princesses in her retinue. The girls will reign during the Jaycee sponsored activi- ties before, during and after the annual Thanksgiving Day Barn- stable-Lawrence High game to be played at Falmouth this year. DOROTHY MARCKUS Mrs. Dorothy E. Marckus, 06, mother of Charles A. Hendler and a resident of Fuller Road , this village, since 1929, died in Hyannis, Nov. 8, after a long illness. A native of Norristown, Pa., she was the widow of Charles Marckus and formerly had been active in the Ladles Bewlng Clrclo of the South Congregational Church. She was known, affectionately, to many vil- lage residents as "Mother Marc- kus." Services were held at Doane, Boal and Ames Funeral Home Nov. 11, wtih burial in Beechwood Cemetery here. The Rev. Warren H. Johnson of South Congregational Church officiated. Mrs. Raymond M. Burnham of Old Post Road was hostess for a meeting of the executive board of the Women's Fellowship lost Mon- day evening. Plans were outlined for the year's activities. Jeffrey W. Crocker of Centerville and James Church of Barnstable, both seniors at Barnstable High, visited the "Open House" activities at the West Yarmouth and Middle- > boro State Police barracks last week. The Sidney Larkin family of Lake Drive , Wequaquct Estates have moved to New Hampshire where Mr. Larkin has been transferred to a new position with Grossman's Hardware Store. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Anthony of Providence, R. I., spent the week- end at their Wequaquet Lake home. Mr. and Mrs. Alston Barrett of South Orange, N. J., havo pur- chased the Main St., home of Mrs. Harold J. Howe. Mrs. Bertha Kelly of Belmont has been visiting her sister , Miss Katherlne Dooley of Harbrook Village. FARR-BROWN WEDDING Miss Priscilla Lane Farr , daugh- ter of Mr . and Mrs, J, W. Farr , 3rd of Littleton, N. H., and Donald Richard Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Pease of Strawberry Hill Road, this village, were united in mariago at a 3:30 p.m., double ring ceremony Sept. 23, at First Congregational Church in Littleton with the Rev. Carl F. Schultz, Jr., officiating. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Jill Farr Davis of Big Flats, N. Y., as matron of honor and by Miss Dlannu B. Zwickor of Milton and Miss Linda J. Lippert of Arlington as bridesmaids. Miss Vcki Pease, sister of the groom, served as Junior bridesmaid. John W. Farr , 4th, brother of the bride , served as best man for Mr. Brown while Uie bridegroom's brother Gerald E. Pease, Jr., of Centerville, Allan F. Couper of Milton and Edward Hazlltt of Ar- lington were ushers. Edward Lane, church organist, presented traditional and appropri- ate music before and during the ceremony and a trio of musicians played at the reception held in the ' Masonic Temple in Littleton , after which the couple left for a week's wedding trip by automobile to Maine. The bride is a 1057 graduate of Holyoke High School. Mr. Brown Is a 1953 graduate of Barnstable High, attended Northeastern Univer- sity In Boston and served a tour of duty with Uie U. S. Navy. Both are June graduates of the Univer- sity of Massachusetts, Amherst. Mr. Brown is employed as an estimator for F. A. Basset and Co., i Springfield printers. The couple are making their home in Spring- field. BRIDAL, SHOWER Miss Olga "Blllle" Davey of Main St., was tendered a pre-brldal shower at the home of the hostess Mrs. Harold Montcalm of Osterville. Besides Mrs. Montcalm, those in- vited included Mrs. Frank King of Florida , Mrs. John Buckler and Mrs. Maurice French of Hyannis, Mrs. Stanley Buckler, Mrs. Roy Du- puy, Mrs. William I. Hallett and Miss Gemma Hallett, Mrs. Elsie Mallott , Mrs. Richard Prada , Miss Bertha Ruska and Mrs. Otto Snyder of Centerville. Miss Davey and Mr. Ruska were married at South Congregational Church, Nov. 18. Patrolman Ashley Crocker has returne d to duty In Osterville after a month's vacation during which he and Louis Adams of South Main St. enjoyed a trip to Maine, Nova Scotia and Canada with a stop to visit Mr. Adam 's relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Parker and son Bradley have enjoyed a vaca- tion trip to Montreal and St. Agathc in the Laurcutlan mountains of Canada.
