Officer Training Corps. Applicants
will take the nationwide competitive
examination on December 9 as the
first .step toward un appointment
a;; midshipman.
Designed to .supplement the offi-
cer output ol Uie Naval Academy,
the NROTC program makes it pos-
sible lor a young man to earn a
regular commission while Htudylng
at a civilian college of his choice
which has un NROTC unit. All
tuition , fees and books are fur-
nshed by the Navy, and the student
receives un annual retainer of $000
for not more than four years.
During the summers the student
goes on interesting training cruises
to many parts of the world. Afte r
completing the usual four year
college courses, he Is commissioned
in the Regular Navy or Marine
Corps und goes on active duty 08
a prospective career officer in the
Naval service Me receives the
same promotional opportunities ,
duty assijrwni nta and benefits as
his Naval Academy contemporary.
High school seniors and graduates
who have reached tho 17Ui anniver-
sary of birth and have not reached
the 31st anniversary of birth on
1 July 10C2 may apply for the
NROTC aptitude test. Those who
make a qualifying score will be
given a rigid physical exam early
In 1002. From the number of quali-
fied young men remaining in com-
petition , at least 1000 will bo se-
lected to begin their naval careers
next September.
The NROTC college training pro-
gram is also open to enlisted men
on active duty with tho Navy and
Marines. A separate quota is es-
tablished for applicants within
these services.

vaccine , and now that polio Is no
longer a mystery, the National j
Foundation has turned to other
medical problems. Although con-
centrating on birth defects and
arthritis at this time , the National
Foundation will continue their polio
program. Statistics show that near-
ly 300,000 Americans are crippled
by arthlrltts and that birth defects
account for birth abnormalities In
one of every 10 babies born .
In addition to direct patient oft,
[ contributions will support re oareh
to find cures for these afflictions
and to provide scholarships and fel-
lowships to aid In the education of
medical specialists t,o that new
treatment* and technique , may be
applied.

Franklin, to register and confirm
their title in the following des-

A certain parcel of land with the
buildings thereon , situate in said
Barnstable , bounded and described
as follows:
Southerly by Circuit Avenue
223.83 feet; Westerly by land now
or formerly of William A . Meagher j
et ux 100 feet; Northwesterly by
land now or formerly of George P. I
Newton Jr . and Carolyn P. Newton
100.02 feet; Northeasterly by laml I
now or formerly of Elizabeth F.
Hallett Trustee of Hallett Real Es-
tate Trust 100 feet.
Petitioners claim as appurtenant
to the above described laud a right
of way for all purposes to and from
Gosnold Street , a public way, over
Circuit Avenue! as shown on a plan
hereinafter mentioned.
The above described land is
shown on a plan filed with" said
petition and all boundary lines are
claimed to bo located on the ground
as shown on snld plan.
If you desire to make any objec-
tion or defense to said petition you
or your attorney must file a writ-
ten appearance mid an answer
under oath , setting forth clearly
and specifically your objections or
defense to each part of said peti-
tion, in tho office of tho Recorder
of .said Court In Boston (at the
Court House) , or in tho of lice ol
the Assistant Recorder of said Court
at the Registry of Deeds nt Barn
stable in the County of Barnstable
where a copy of the plan filed with
said petition is deposited , on or
