Mashpee art programs
Mary Richmond holds art classes
for ages 12 through 18 at her
Mashpee Commons studio at 27
Fountain St. Classes include clay,
pen and ink, watercolor on location,
drawing and more. Children's art
classes held in the afternoon. Adult

Artists exhibit at
Academy
A group of painters from the
Eastwind Gallery in Orleans exhibits
works through Nov. 5 in the lobby at
the Academy of Performing Arts, 120
Main St. in Orleans, during the run
of Pirates of Penzance. Among the
artists are Liz Hardy, Julie Blanchard,
and Florence Green.
Heritage Museums and
Gardens
The museums and gardens are
open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
in Sandwich, where the shell work
of Evelyn Way Kendall is on exhibit
along with "The Automobite Comes
to Cape Cod" vignette. Check out
the 1899 Winton and the 1908 Sears
Surry, the 1904 Curved Dash Olds
and others.

CCMA
Adult studio classes offered at the
Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis
include still life oil painting, stained
glass, bas-relief sculpture, digital pho-
tography, contemporary film, more. Call
for details. There are also programs on
multi-media, fairy tales, painting, car-
tooning for adults, art history, weaving
and more.
An exhibit of nature prints by Ernst
Haeckel is on display through Nov. 16.
Book artist Rosemary Simpkins' 9/11
memorial sculptural bookwork is on
display through Nov. 5. The Printmak-
ers of Cape Cod exhibit through Dec.
10. In conjunction with the exhibit there
will be an exhibit of prints from the last
500 years. Guided tours of the muse-
um are Thursdays at 2 p.m., Saturdays
at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sundays at
1 p.m. The museum, closed Mondays
through the winter, is on Route 6A in

A traditional New England contra
dance will be held the fifth Saturday

Films at the college
The free fall foreign film series has
begun at Cape Cod Community Col-
lege in West Barnstable. Show time is
at 3:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall A in the
science building. On Nov. 7 it's Jan
Dara, a tale of retribution and love
set in the turbulent Thailand of the
1930s. In Thai with English subtitles.
On Nov. 14, A Scene at the Sea
features a hearing impaired garbage
collector who pursues a dream of
becoming a surfing champion. In
Japanese with English subtitles.
Senior Center film
program
Free films are shown at the
Barnstable Senior Center, Route 28 in
Hyannis, Fridays and Mondays at 1

Premiere to benefit local
groups
The Cape Cod premiere of The Ulti-
mate Gift, a movie about the relation-
ship between wealth and happiness
will be held Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at Cape
Cinema on Route 6A in Dennis to ben-
efit Alzheimer's Servjces of Cape Cod
& the Islands, Cape*Cod Community
College Educational Foundation, and
the YMCA Cape Cod. Sponsors in-

Weekly films and food
The Island Merchant, 10 Ocean St.
in Hyannis, has screenings of popular
films every Tuesday evening. Food
and drink samples related to the film
are served on the side at 7 p.m. The
screenings are at 7:30 p.m. Admis-
sion for the package is $15 or you
can order off the menu.
MUSIC
BHS presents fall concert
The Barnstable High School Music
Department presents "Fall Leaves,"
a lively, jazz-oriented show at 7 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4.
The show features performances by
the award-winning Vocal Jazz Ensem-
ble and Jazz Lab Band as well as the
string ensemble and vocal soloists. The
concert will be in the Chorus Room,
transformed in cabaret style with baked
goods and hot beverages served at
each table. Tickets $10 at the door.
Organ performance in
Mashpee
English organist and Royal Acad-
emy of Music professor Peter Lea-
Cox will conduct Schola Cantorum
of Falmouth in Renaissance and Ba-
roque choral and organ music Nov. 3
at 8 p.m. at Christ the King parish in
Mashpee, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. at Church
of the Messiah in Woods Hole, and
Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Se-

A Ray of sunshine
Ray Rasicot performs at the Pad-
dock Restaurant, West Main Street

evenings when he'll be playing the
Hammond Organ (B-3) as well as the
piano. He's solo on Friday nights but
on Saturday he will be joined by Mike
Crocco on sax and clarinet for pop
classics and a selection of favorite
show tunes.
