CHARLIE FOX won a town-wide contest
to design a poster for the center's annual
restaurant contribution promotion with this
work.
JERRY SHAFTON is neat as a pin when he paints ships on
Cape Cod and Florida.

larger canvases. She's a sunshine lady who
likes to laugh.

SHIRLEY POWELL makes a still life of seagrass. shells and saltwater.
Kind of warm for Maine.
At work in the three most popular art-
ists' media -oils,watercolors and acrylics
- students in the spring/summer term of
art classes for seniors showed their cre-
ations early this month at the Barnstable
Senior Center.
With the exception of Charlie Fox, a
retired art teacher in suburban Hartford ,
all the "graduates " are men and women
with little or no training and experience.
They plunged into the work with gusto
and concern.
The students mentioned the abiding
respect and affection gained for their
teacher, Claudia Brierely-Brown. Classes
have met for two hours each week at the
center, and participants say they devel-
oped skills far beyond the expectations.
Contact the front desk of the center if
you're interested in seeing and/or pur-
chasing the students ' work. Prices are
reasonable.

SIGN UP - A new sign marking the way to the Barnstable Senior
Center is hung on heavy-duty posts along Route 28 in Hyannis.
Everything fits for senior center staffer David Lunedei, left, and
Christopher Root of Locust Street Sign Company in Falmouth.
Welcome to fall,
If you haven't driven by the Senior Center
recently, I hope you will make a special trip
soon. The final stages of our new logo work are near
completion and our beautiful new sign is up. It is quite
eye-catching and definitely unique. I think you will all
love it. I presented our rebranding and logo work at a
workshop with our marketing team from McLeod Design
at the most recent Massachusetts Council on Aging con-
ference this week, and the feedback was overwhelmingly
positive. When people saw the new logo, they all said
"WOW!" Wow indeed.
We also have a new change inside the Center as well.
Our new Volunteer/ Marketing Coordinator Amy Levine
began on Oct. 11 and is working hard at improving our
volunteer programs and services. We will be looking for
more people to help out around here, so if you are inter-
ested, please give Amy a call.
Rose Digregorio, the Director of the Adult Supportive
Day Program for the Town of Barnstable , asked me to
include the following excerpt.
Barnstable Adult Supportive Day Program celebrates 9th
anniversary
Harry, Sylvia, and Joe arrive by Silver Express. Laurie
drops off her mom Barbara , and Cliff tells his wife he will
pick her up at 3 p.m. Who are these people and what are
they doing? You may be surprised by the answer: they
are all seniors who are spending the day, along with 10 of
their peers, at the Barnstable Adult Supportive Day Pro-
gram in Centerville. We are honored to have them join
us each day and are proud to say that we are celebrating
