POWER KICKER -BHS goalieJordan
Bar sends another one flying during
the Raiders' match against Falmouth
on Monday.
HE'S GOT YOUR BACK(FIELD) - Defender Steve Kilmurray races after the
ball during Barnstable's home game against Falmouth on Monday.
The
boys varsity soc-
cer team suffered a
tough loss this week to
Falmouth, though they played
an intense game.
Matt Zall certainly came
away with a few extra bruises
in the physical match as he
took a kick to the side of his
face, and was dealt a hard trip,
both in the first half. In spite
of taking a few for the team,
Zall unwaveringly stayed in
the game.
Also turning in a stellar
performance was defender
Steve Kilmurray. Not only was
Kilmurray quick with his feet,
but he demonstrated fearless-
ness when it came to using
his head, as well, turning in a
number of great headshots.
Midfielders Nathan Andac
and John Collins were contin-
ually aggressive in pursuit of
the ball, while Felipe Ribeiro
showed some fancy footwork.
In the goal Jordan Bar did
his best to prevent the Clip-
pers from scoring, putting
forth several excellent kicks
following outs and saves.
Unfortunately poor field
conditions and Falmouth's
relentless drives for the goal
wore on Barnstable and the
Clippers were able to find the
goal on three occasions.
Although the Raiders were
able to maneuver the ball into
scoring range, Falmouth goalie
Brett Youngthwarted any and
all possible goals.
At press time BHS was
scheduled to face Taunton on
the road,with their next home
game against Attleboro on
Tuesday.

OnMonday the JVteam played
Dartmouth on home turf,endur-
ing a difficult loss of 20-8.
Sadly the normally cohesive
team was mistake-prone,aswell
as coping with the absence of
several key players.
In spite of setbacks, the Raid-
ers played hard, refusing to go
down easy to the Indians. "They
played their tails off," said Head
Coach Paul Bentley.
Eric Trotto had a tremendous
gamedefensively,makingseveral
tackles in the backfield as well
as running into the secondary
field.

RACING FOR THE BALL - Courtney King (3) races after a hit in an attempt
to beat Falmouth to the ball while Lizzie Seidman follows close behind.
While Barnstable lost to Falmouth on Monday, they defeated Durfee on
Tuesday, securing a spot in postseason play.
The BHS girls field hockey
team had a roller-coaster
week, dropping an intense
game to Falmouth and
emerging with a victory over
Durfee.
On Monday the girls faced
Falmouth in a physical, back
and forth game that saw
Falmouth score the only goal
just four minutes into the
second half.
Casey Ostrander was for-
midable on defense, greatly
assisting goalie Danielle
Cotellessa.
Erika Hansen and Lynne
Donoghue did their best to
keep the ball in Barnstable
territory but Falmouth
proved challenging.
On Tuesday the Raiders
faced Durfee on the road with
Donoghue turning in her sec-
ond hat trick of the season.
Although Durfee took a
1-0 lead early in the game,
Barnstable was quick to an-
swer, tying the game 13min-
utes in on a goal from Kristen
Logan on a penalty stroke.
Donoghue then scored
three unanswered goals to
give the Raiders a comfort -
able berth. Lizzie Seidman
and Meaghan Delaney, varsity
captains, kicked in excellent
assists.
Ostrander was again im-
pressive as left wing, helping
in Barnstable's strong mid-
field play. The win brings the
team to 10-4-1 for the season
and qualifies them for post-
season play.
Next up are back-to-back
home games. The Raiders
face Nauset on Monday at
3:30 p.m. and Attleboro on
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
