mou nt of heat , givi ng a mild and equal temperature to
the whole of the air in the fuY.nace chamber , from which
it is conducted into the several apartments to be warm-
ed ,—the combustion of the fuel- being so slow , that we
do not expose any rod hot iron tsv the air to be heated,
and it is so easil y"controlled that H)C required heat can
he increased or diminished at pleasure , with a corres-
ponding consumption of fuel. Being hut 4 1-2 feet in
hei ght , it can be easil y placed in any cellar , and in all
cases we warrant them to give entire satisfaction.

from Quebec for Liverpool , was passed 17th ult , lat 45
44 , Ion 46 47 , waterlogged , by the Thetis , at St John ,
^B , 29th , masts standing and sails furled. A British
bri g was seen to board her in the evening, and hoisted
her jib. She was also fallen in with , 24th , spars all
standing, and some sail set, by the Comoro , at New
York , which took from her the main topsail , chain
sheets and ties and a boatload of rigging. An Am ship
bound W , left her as the C came in sight.
Bri g Rodman , (of New Bedford) fm New York Jan
4, for San Francisco , went ashore in the Straits of Ma-
gellan , morn of June 20, and became a total loss; crew
saved and have arrived at Callao.
Shi p Henry Astor, of Nantucket , was hauled upon
the beach at the island of Tobago , Panama Bay, for re-
pairs , but during the same night she bilged and was
condemned. Her effects would be sold "ior the benefit
of whom it may concern." Vessel and cargo insured at
San Francisco for $10,000, and S1000 on the vessel at
Nantuekot. The date of the Captain's letter, which an-
nounces the loss, is not given.
Seh Star, Nickerson , fm Gloucester , 9th inst, for New
York , with molasses and mackerel , got on a ledge of
rocks , off Five Pound Island , and bil ged. The molas-
ses was insured in New York.
Three masted sell Richmond , Kelley, fm Baltimore ,
of and for Boston , with coal, went ashore on the S W
side of M usk eket , 9th inst. Two lighters went to her
from Nantuckot.and were alongside Thursday afternoon.
