THANK YOU: Thanks to those parents who
are helpingus improve our morning drop off
as well as the afternoon pick-up procedure.
Our crosswalks should be painted soon and
we are working on new signs to assist us
during these two busy times of the day.
WELCOME TO NEW STUDENTS: There were
33 students who had "Popsicles with the
Principal" to welcome them to our school.
This "meeting" is held every year is to show
these boys and girls that they are not the
only ones who are beginning the year at a
new school.
VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR SEPTEMBER:
We had 56 hours from the students at BHS
who were doing community service and 291
hours in the Volunteer Log Book. The total
of 347 hours is a great start to the school
year. Please contact Suellen Crossley at 508-
790-6480 if you would like to get involved
in our school.
SAFETY UPDATE: With the recent incidents
regarding school safety in the news, here's
a review some of the initiatives at Hyannis
West that are in place to address the safety
of our school community. All outside doors
are locked during school hours. There is a
security camera at the front entrance that
our secretary monitors. Visitors are required
to ring the bell to allow Mrs. Curran an
opportunity to identify them before they
are allowed into the building. We require
all visitors to sign in at the front desk and
wear a visitor badge while in the building.
We also request that parents/guardians do
not proceed to classrooms unless they have
received approval from the office.

BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE: At both schools,
we are having a large number of children
who are arriving at school late and being
marked as "tardy." Some parents think
that all children do in the morning when
they come to class is socialize or do "busy
work" until classes really begin. However,
that is not the case at all. Before school
work or morning work as it is sometimes
called is an important part of the child's
school day. Parents are reminded that at
the Osterville Bay School their child can
arrive at school between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.
After 8:45 a.m. they are marked "tardy."At
the Osterville Elementary School, children
arrive between 8:45 and 9 a.m. and children
are tardy when they arrive after 9 a.m.
Please keep this in mind as you prepare
your child for school.
