Raiders harpoon
Whalers in stellar
road game
By Kathleen Szmit

While New Bedford spent
the week defeating most
Barnstable teams, there was
one that managed to stall
them.
On Saturdaythe JVRaiders
football team played in New
Bedford and emerged victo-
rious, defeating the Whalers
36 to 20.
John Gomes proved his
worth as he had a part in five
touchdowns, throwing three
and running in two, giving
Barnstable a decent lead.
The Raiders sixth and final
touchdown came from a low
snap on a punt, which Jeremy
Williams scooped up quickly.
Williams then cut toward the
sidelineandbackintothe mid-
field, confusing the Whalers'
defense. With the field wide
open, he charged ahead for
the touchdown to the delight
of Barnstable fans.
Offensively,EricTrotto,Mike
Keene,MarkBritto,CoreyHen-
drix and Mike O'connell paid
close attention to detail, care-
fullyexecutingCoachBentley's
plays and greatly assistingthe
team in the win.
Junior TomWasierskistart-
ed hisfirst gameasadefensive
end, greatly impressing the
coaches. Also on defense ,
Alex Breski made several
tackles for the backfield and
Mike Barnocky garnered two
nice interceptions, keeping
the excitement of the match
alive. The win puts the team
at 3 and 1for the season.
The Raiders face Dart-
mouth at home on Monday
