A recent article on John
Crow of Osterville should
have noted that Mary Jane
Savage,whoalongwithCrow
isadirector of the Osterville
Village Association , also
founded the Osterville
Voice with Crow.... Last
week's front-page picture
by Kate Armstrong of West
Barnstable prompted an
e-mail from a Centerville
womanwho said shebelieved
the three apples were hang-
ingin anorchard that usedto
belong to her grandfather....
The New York Times and its
people are sayingalongfare-
well to their colleague R.W.
"Johnny" Apple, who died
recently. Adam Nagourney
wrote an appreciation of his
gourmand friend that told
of a dinner in Des Moines
in 2004 when a young Times
reporter ordered adozen oys-
ters to impress Apple. The
veteran newsman shot the
tyro a look that said, "What
areyou thinkingof, ordering
oysters at an Iowa steak-
house,"aglarejustified with
"the delivery of a bland and
watery plate of Wellfleets."
Wonder if the varieties from
ourtown would have held up
any better.... Schools Supt.
Dr. Patricia Grenier will be
the guest of the Barnstable
Newcomers Club Oct. 18 at
7:30 p.m. at the Barnstable
Senior Center on Route
28 near the middle school
in Hyannis. All Barnstable
residentsarewelcome....Not
to whine, but we still can't
understand why unleaded
regular gas at a Gulf sta-
tion in North Attleboro was
$2.13 a gallon Friday night
and $2.49 a gallon Saturday
morning at a Gulf station on
Route28inYarmouth....The
Memorial Garden Walk at
the MaryMcCarthyHospice
House on Service Road in
Sandwich will be dedicated
Thursdayat 2p.m.Thehouse

liative Care of Cape Cod....
Clip and save: The Blaine
School at 259 North St. in
Hyannis will host "Clip for
the Cure" Thursday, when
you can get a haircut for $5,
which willbe donated to the
RegisFoundation for Breast
CancerResearch....Rehabili-
tation Hospital of the Cape
and Islands is starting an
exercise/wellness program
for people with Parkinson's
Disease, based on rehab
studies by Dr. Terry Ellis,
a national expert based at

ingfor potential participants
