Mr. O. W. Johnson, chairman of,
Cape Cod Chapter, American Red
Cross, has announced that in keep
ing with President Kennedy's ex-
panded Civil Defense preparedness
program all activities in the Red
Cross on Cape Cod will be acceler-
ated.
Mr. Johnson announced the fol-
lowing Red Cross courses are open
to all:
A Home Nursing course at Oster-
vill Community Building on Tues-
days and Thursdays, from 2 to 4
p.m., beginning Oct. 24. Miss Doris
N. Cutler, chairman of Nursing
Service, described this course as de-
signed to prepare individuals in self
care during illness and home care
] of ill members of the family The
course is certificated and will be
taught by Miss Cutler who is a
Registered Nurse.
Mrs. Newton Carlson, chairman
o fVolunteer Services, announced a
course for Volunteer Visitors to
Nursing Homes arranged by Red
Cross in conjunction with United
Church Women of Cape Cod, These
classes which started Oct. 10, will

Home Service Committee, announ-
ced a two-week, five-sessions course
for Social Welfare Aides will be
conducted by Miss Rae Conlin,
American Red Cross Area Field
Representative, in November. Reg-
istrations are now being accepted
Sheldon J .Thayer, chairman of
Safety Services, announced that
First Aid classes are being formed
in all towns and villages with em-
phasis on first old in nuclear blasts.
He advised that basic First Aid
classes be attended first, then fol-
lowed up with the course on first
aid for injuries due to a nuclear
blast. A 10-week course started in
Falmouth this week. Registration
may be made by calling Civil De-
fense in Falmouth, co-sponsor of the
class.
Call Red Cross Chapter House,
SP 5-1540, to register for volunteer
work or Red Cross training classes.

Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Crawford
Jiave returned home after a three-
week tour of the Canadian provin-
ces. They had as their weekend
guest Miss Marian Whitely, hostess
at "The Pines" for 17 consecutive
years.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard P. Claussen
have returned from visiting friends
in Old Lyme, Conn., and Newport,
R.I. They will have as weekend
guests Mr. and Mrs. Fred E. Far-
num, sister and brother-in-law of
Mr. Claussen, of Florida and New
London. On Monday, Mr. Claussen
will attend a testimonial dinner at
the Harvard Club for Mr. Douglas
Lawson, executive director of the
state club of Massachusetts. Tues-
day, she will be patroness at a fash-
ion show at the Sheraton-Plaza
Hotel in Boston. The show is spon-
sored by the Women's Republican
Club of Massachusetts, of which she
is a past president.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stanard
will leave tomorrow for a two-week
Ashing trip off Cape Hatteras, N.C,
Jimmy Grauer is home after a
tonsilectomy at Cape Cod Hospital.

Carlton P. Behlman, of Santuit Rd.,
a daughter, Linda Sue, at Otis AFB
Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Nlckerson
and sons Douglas, Ross, and Jerry
visited American International
College at Springfield over the
weekend. While visiting, they
stayed with Mrs. Nickerson's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Grang-
er. AIC is one of the colleges be-
ing considered by the Nickersons
for Jerry, now a senior at Barn-
stable High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Nickerson
and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Schmid
have enrolled in the University of
Mass, extension course at Cape
Community College, "Africa and
the Middle East." Importance of
knowing about these countries
learned first session; 57 of the 100
UN's members are from Africa
and - the Middle East.
Clayton Ryder Is on a two-week
tour of Spain.
Pvt. Calvin Dudley, U. S. Ar-
my, now spending a two-week
leave With his mother, will report
to Ft. Knox, Ky., Oct. 13, for two
weeks of tank training.

Hardware Dealers Association will
be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at
Riverway Lobster House, South

Stephen B. O'Brien of the Cen-
terville Insurance Agency has re-
turned from Boston, where he at-
tended a meeting of officers of the
Kemper Insurance Group with In-
dependent agents from the New
England states.
Progress reports were received
on the Kemper organization's 60th
year celebration, which started
July 1 and is to Include a cruise
conference for agents.

mens Mutual Casualty Company
and Federal Mutual Insurance

performance of solicitors working
in the fund raising drive held re-
cently by the District Nursing As-
sociation of Barnstable, Yarmouth
and Dennis, a tea will be given
Oct. 10 following the annual meet-
ing of the association at tho Hy-
annls Inn at 3 p.m.
A spokesman for tho organiza-
tion said the performance of the
solicitors In the 1961 drive was the

of forming a branch In Falmouth
of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People.
Mrs. Mclnca Cass, president of

Will address the meeting.
A temporary committee, headed
