FAU-nitE of the Pawtucket_ Bank —_I Ik vMt of the bank commissioners to this "iustitulion ' disclosed a system of fraud on the part of the cash- ier A. A. Tilling hast ,which has been going on for u- bou 't seven years. An injunc tion has according ly been laid on the concern. The amount of his defalcation lias not been ascertained , but it is supposed that hi> prop erty , which has been made over to the bank to the amount of 820,000, will by no means cover it He had had th e whole manag ement of the bank ,and had loaned pretty largel y to lii s friend ".without good security. Several failures in the village have , hap- pened in consequence of the exp losion , which is a serious misfortu ne to the business of the place. Mr, Tilling hast was the oldest cashier in the common- wealth , and had been highl y respected up to the time of the discovery. —["Boston Post. A livel y sensation was created among our colored population yesterday morning, by the appearance of a stout good looking gentleman in blue coat with bri ght huilons , and a large cockade upon his hat , who , re- port, said , was the II. S. Marshal from Charleston , S. C, upon a slave-catching expedition. The ru- mor spread like wild-fire among the colored peop le , who naturall y became much excited , and commenc- ed arming themselves , determined to maintain their freedom with their lives. Some hours later , how- ever , the fact leaked out that the. "stout gentleman " was no other than Mr. Jacobs , the very worthy and respectable City Marshal of Ciiarlestown , Mass., who cmne here,in pursuit of a truant son who had sailed on Monday in the whaling bark Harvest for the North Pacific Ocean.—[New Bedford Mercury, 3d inst.
