Patricia M. Giostri, 44 Osterville - Patricia M. (Laboisso- niere) Giostri,44, died Sept. 24, 2006, at her home. She was the wife of Gilmar Gio- stri. Born in Guadeloupe, West Indies, Mrs. Giostri moved to Boston with her family at age 7. After graduating from Marlboro High School, she lived in Belo Hori- zonte, Brazil, for 10 years, where she taught English. She was working as a medical interpreter for the VNA of Cape Cod. Besides her husband, survivors in- clude a son, David, of Osterville; her parents,Victorand GenevieveLabois- soniereof HollySprings,N.C.;andfour sisters, Linda West of Newbury,N.H., Kathy Ward of Acton,Nicole Thomas of Holly Springs, N.C. and Cheron Laboissoniere of Loomis, Calif. Funeralserviceswere held at John- Lawrence Funeral Home inMarstons Mills. Burial was in Mosswood Cem- etery in Cotuit. Griffin, D.M.D., 82 Worcester-Robert PGriffin,D.M.D., 82, died Sept. 23, 2006, at Knollwood Nursing Center after a brief illness. He was born in Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School. He earned a bachelor of sci- ence degree from St.Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., in 1950, and earned his D.M.D. degree from Tufts Dental Schoolin 1954.HewasanArmy veteran of World WarII who served in the European theater. He practiced dentistryinWorcester for more than 30 years, and had a home in Centerville for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was a frequent traveler to Ireland over the past 25years.An avid golfer,he wasamember ofthe Wianno Golf ClubinOsterville,wherehewasa clubchampion,and oftheManchester Country Club in New Hampshire. He had two career holes-in-one. He wasamember of OurLady ofthe Rosary Parish and of several profes- sional associations. A trustee of the former Worcester City Hospital, he was a donor to many charities. Survivors include a sister, Eileen M. Leary of Milton; and three nieces and a nephew. A funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Worcester.BurialfollowedinSt.John's Cemetery there. Julia M. Hallett, 76 Cotuit - Julia M. (Dudley) Hallett, 76,died Sept.23, 2006,at St.Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers, N.Y. Shewasthe wife of Richard H. Hal- lett, who died in 1977. Born in Jamestown, N.Y,shewas a graduate of Jamestown High School and a graduate of Pine Manor Junior College in Chestnut Hill. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies in- cluded reading and knitting.Shehad lived in Cotuit for the past 25 years and had formerly lived in Sherborn for 25 years. Survivors include her children, Marta Hallett of New York, Mark D. Hallett of New Fairfield, Conn.,David H. Hallett of Peachtree City,Ga., and Karen Hallett of Cape Coral,Fla.;and five grandchildren. Graveside services were held at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Man- sfield. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Richard P. Hooker, 90 Cummaquid-RichardRHooker,90, died Oct. 1, 2006, at his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Gardner) Hooker for 65 years. Born in East Providence, R.I., he attended MosesBrown School,Brown University,and Rhodes Island School of Design in Providence. AWorldWarIIveteran ofthe United States Army,he served in the Pacific Theater, including Okinawa. After the war, he worked for Wash- burn Wire Co.inEast Providence,the Holyoke Belting Co. in Holyoke, and Laing Associates in Springfield. In 1954, he founded the Hooker Transmission Company in Holyoke and was owner/operator until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Hooker and his wife moved to Cummaquidfrom Granbyshortlyafter his retirement. He was a member of the Holyoke Rotary club and the Masonic Lodge in Holyoke. He was a member of the Granby Congregational Church and attended servicesinthe First Congre- gational Church of Barnstable. Mr. Hooker was a member of the Acoaxet Club of Rhode Island andthe Cummaquid Golf Club. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, boating, and crafting model boats. Inaddition tohiswife,he issurvived by a daughter, Carol H. Conrad of Upton; a son, Richard R Hooker, Jr., of Easthampton; six grandchildren; and 13great grandchildren. A homemaker, Mrs. Parks enjoyed shopping at flea markets and loved animals. Survivorsincludetwo sisters,Ame- liaBajak and StefaniaWoishnis,both of Chicopee, and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Gould Jewett Porter,86 Plymouth -Elizabeth "Betty"Gould Jewett Porter, 86, died Sept. 22, 2006, at Life Care Nursing Facilities. Shewasthe wife of Kenneth Wilbur Porter for 65 years. Mrs. Porter was born in Worcester andraisedinRhode Island.Shegradu- atedfrom LincolnPreparatory School in Providence, R.I., and from LaSalle College in Auburndale. Shelived in Connecticut for several years before moving to Cape Cod. At the time Camp Edwards was being built on Cape Cod she was on the staff of its First Aid Station. She was also a member of the original staff at Cape Cod CommunityCollegewhenit opened in 1961, and she stayed at the college until her retirement in 1980. She spent several years in Florida before returning to the Cape in 1995, where she lived briefly in South Yarmouthand Falmouthbefore mov- ing to Plymouth eight years ago. She enjoyed being with her grand- children,and also painted,played the piano and organ and wrote articles for small publications. She spent severalyears compilinga familyhistoryand personal narratives for her family genealogy. Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, Leighton Jewett Porter of Chelmsford and Jonathan Fred Porter of Plymouth; five grand- children; and four great-grandchil- dren. Memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable. Lillian T. Strange, 80 Cambridge - Lillian T. (Queen) Strange,died Sept. 17,2006, at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge after a short battle with cancer. Shewas the wife of the lateWallace J. Strange. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., she moved to Cape Cod in 1970. She and her husband were active members of the Unitarian Church of Barnstable , which she attended for 36 years and was highly involved in the Women'sAlliance and the Friday Boutique Group. A member of the Red Hat Society and the NAACR she served also for a number of years at the polling precincts in Hyannis. A memorial service will be held Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable on the corner of Route 6A and Phinney's Lane in Barnstable village. Jeanne Strempek, 92 Danvers -Jeanne (Renaud) Strem- pek, 92, died Aug. 9, 2006, at Cedar Glenn Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Vetol Strempek. Mrs. Strempek was born in Holy- oke. She devoted her adult life to her children,accompanyingthem asthey moved around the country and lived in Maine, Texas, Idaho and Massa- chusetts. She was a former resident of Whitehall Estates in Hyannis. Survivors include two children, Gary Strempek of Marblehead and Barbara Bissaillon of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Stanislaus in Chicopee. Memorial donations may be made to Allcare Hospice, 16 City Hall Square, Lynn, MA 01901. Richard L. Zisson, 64 Weston - Attorney Richard L. Zisson, 64, died Sept. 28, 2006, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, of an illness with cancer. He was the husband of Libby (Greenburg) Zisson. Mr. Zisson was born in Boston and graduated from Boston Latin School in 1960. He earned aBachelor of Science degree from Boston Uni- versity School of Management and graduated from Suffolk University Law School in 1967. He was a partner in the law firm of Zisson and Veara, with offices in Hyannis and Dedham. He was also an adjunct professor of law at Suffolk University Law School from 1973 until the time of his death. He was a member of the concilia- tor'sprogramfor the Superior Court in Barnstable County, and a Master in Superior Court and Probate and Family Courts of the Trial Court. He had also practiced before the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and of the Barnstable , Boston, Norfolk , Middlesex County and American Bar associations. He was a member of the Massachusetts and National Associations of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a panel member for the Board of Bar Overseers. He was a past president of Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, a member of the Temple choir, and a longtime member of the University Club in Boston. He was also amember of the Allen Harbor Yacht Club in Harwich and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Julie of California; and two sons, Joshua of Boston and David of Boulder, Colo. Services were held at Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland, followed by burial in Beit Olam Cemetery there.
