HONORED - Dick
Gallagher of
Hyannisport (pictured)
and Dr. Rodger Currie
of Palm Beach and
Hyannisport were
awarded Carnegie
Medals from the
Carnegie Hero Fund
this week for the July
2005 rescue of boaters
off Hyannisport.
When Dick Gallagher of
Hyannisport and Dr. Rodger
Currie of Palm Beach, Fla.
and Hyannisport pulled six
people from a burning sail-
boat in July 2005, the goal
was to provide assistance any
boater would hope to receive
in a similar situation.
The successful rescue of
Dan Adams and family in
the waters off Hyannisport
has now been recognized
by the Carnegie Hero Fund
Commission. Gallagher, 54,
and Currie, 81, were awarded
Carnegie Medals from the
commission this week.
The award was accompa-
nied by a $4,000 grant from
the commission.
"We trust you will be as
honored to receive this award
as we are to giveit,"the cover
letter to Gallagher reads.
Gallagher and Currie were
among 67 awardees from
across the country and Cana-
da recognized by the organi-
zation thus far in 2006.
Gallagher is also an elected
member of the Hyannis Fire
District's Board of Commis-
sioners.
