Rhododendrons have dropped their huge blos- soms and below them the daylilies have turned to an arsenal of dried brown staves. In the fall the front-yard decor too quickly becomes bales of hay with ornamental gourds and pumpkins perched on top. Legions of autumn- hued mums invade front walkways, porches and steps. But don't de- spair, if you're a gardener and like to putter, there's still time to plant yet more things. Before honing and oiling spades and trowels and sentencing them to a long six-months in the potting shed, consider pardoning them and planting trees and shrubs this fall, the season sometimes referred to as the "second best time to plant," after spring. Favorite fall plantings On a recent morning in Dennis- port, employees at Hart Farm were gearing up for the fall planting sea- son. "We got three or four trucks in today," said Don Kossack , who with his father owns the business. "We'll be getting more in next week." The farm, like others in the area, has sales throughout the fall.
