IN THE
RUNNING AGAIN
- Former Barnstable
superintendency
candidate Jeff Bearden
is one of two finalists
for the top job in the
Murray County Schools
of Georgia.
JeffBearden ,who dropped
out of the running for the
Barnstable school superin-
tendent'sjob after getting a
look at Cape housing prices,
is one of two finalists to run
the Murray County Schools
in Georgia.
The Dalton Daily Citizen ,
published in the city anhour
north of Atlanta, reported
that Bearden , assistant su-
perintendent of business for
a school district in Maine,
grew up in Bremen, a small
town west of Atlanta.
ThepreviousMurray Coun-
ty superintendent resignedin
June amidcontroversy. Also,
a third finalist , Victor Hill,
director of human resources
and federal programs for the
schools,withdrew inAugust,
citing family reasons.
Bearden is up against La-
mar "Pete" Adams, former
elected superintendent who
has worked in the Murray
County system for about
three decades.
After last week's board
meeting, the Daily Citizen
reported that adecision was
still pending. The board is
scheduled to meet again
Oct. 2.
The newspaper hasits own
Websitefor reader comments
and conversations, and it's
clear that there are strong
feelings on the matter.
"Iamreallyhonestlytrying
to think this out,"writes "In-
dian Dad.""If am impressed
with the guy, I'll cut him
some slack.
"It'swhy Iposted arequest
to the newspapers up in the
Cape Cod area. I am want-
ing to know -good or bad or
whatever anyone who willlet
us have some insight on his
reputation and perception
towards the public. It does
not mean diddly asfar asthe
BOE (board of education)
-but it willeitherfire usallup
if he's a Bone head, or calm
us down if he's OK."
