Films at the college The free fall foreign film series has begun at Cape Cod Community Col- lege in West Barnstable. Show time is at 3:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall A in the science building. Earth, the story of the 1947 independence and subse- quent division of India, plays Sept. 19. Fire is up on Sept. 26, when the roles of women in India are the topic. Movie night under the stars Enjoy a blockbuster Sept. 15 when Zathura plays. Madagascar follows on Sept. 22. Film time is at 7:30 p.m. at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich. Admission is $4 to $5. Weekly films and food The Island Merchant, 10 Ocean St. in Hyannis, has screenings of popular films every Tuesday evening. Food and drink samples related to the film are served on the side at 7 p.m. The screenings are at 7:30 p.m. Admis- sion for the package is $15 or you can order off the menu. j fe MUSIC: Benefit concert in Mashpee The renewable energy advocacy group Clean Power Now holds a benefit concert at the Sons of Italy Hall, Route 28 in Mashpee, Sept. 23 from 2:30 to 10 p.m. Music by Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish and The Rock It Ups. There will be raffles, silent auc- tion, exhibits, awards, buffet and more. Tickets, $20 in advance, $25 at the door, are available locally at Spinnakers Music on Main Street in Hyannis. From sea to shining sea The first Cape-wide Land & Sea Harvest is held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 when there will be special tasting menus using local ingredients at res- taurants across the Cape; educational activities at farms, bogs, wineries and breweries; a finale farmers market in Aselton Park in Hyannis, and the 5th Annual Cape Cod Oyster Festival at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum. . Moonlight on Cape Cod The Moonlighters 16-piece big band performs Sept. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sandwich Taverna, Route 130. A cover charge of $10 is in place. For reservations, call 508-888-2200. Oyez! Returns An English Patorale is presented by Oyez! Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Route 137 in Harwich. Music in Barnstable Village The Barnstable Restaurant and Tavern offers "Music in the Court- yard" Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. and during its Sunday jazz brunch from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. across from the county courthouse on Route 6A in Barnstable village. Libana in Brewster The women's world music ensem- ble, Libana, performs dance, song, chants and more Sept. 16 7:30 p.m. at First Parish, Route 6A, in Brewster. Admission is $5 to $15. People's Choir bands Sing the hits of the '60s and '70s, gospel and other contemporary music when you join The People's Choir of Cape Cod. A Ray of sunshine Ray Rasicot performs at the Pad- dock Restaurant, West Main Street in Hyannis, Friday and Saturday evenings when he'll be playing the Hammond Organ (B-3) as well as the piano. He's solo on Friday nights but on Saturday he will be joined by Mike Crocco on sax and clarinet for pop classics and a selection of favorite show tunes. Swing to the action at the Island Merchant Saturdays at The Island Merchant, 10 Ocean St. in Hyannis, feature either a DJ or an '80s theme; call for sched- ule. That in mind, there will be an auction of the 50 big guys Sept. 23 when a gala is held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton Hyannis Resort. Admission is $70. Party time in Barnstable The Barnstable Historical Society hosts a Septemberfest Sept. 24 when there will be games, exhibits, food, wine and an auction at the Daniel Davis House, 3074 Main St., between 3 and 5 p.m. Tickets are $35, and reservations can be made by calling 508-362-2982. Learn about the Coast Guard The U.S. Coast Guard Heritage Museum at the Trayser on Route 6A in Barnstable village presents the artifacts and stories of the life-saving service.
