Insurance reform sought
by Bennett
State Senate candidate Doug
Bennett issued a position paper
recently on insurance reform in
which he calls for waiving insur-
ance premium taxesfor insurance
companies to encourage them to
return to the market and for cre-
ation of awind pool and atwo-tier
billing system with lower rates
for owners who opt out of wind
coverage.

The wheels are turning
Public information meetings on
a proposed extension of the Cape
Cod Rail Trail through Dennis and
Yarmouth to Hyannis will be held
next week.
The state Executive Office of
Transportation says there is money
available in Fiscal Year
2007 for design work on
the trail, and funds are
slotted for construction
in FY 2010.
A notice of the meet-
ings says the project is
intended to provide safe
andconvenientuserand
abutter friendly access
to recreational and in-
stitutionaldestinations
in Dennis, Yarmouth
with an eventual con-
nection to key trans-
portation and business
centers in Hyannis and
west serving regional
and local users."
The extension would
be "a 10 foot wide multi-
use path along the for-
mer commuter rail right of way
between Route 134 in Dennis to
the Barnstable Town line located
just west of Willow Street." There
would be overpasses or tunnels at
Route 134 and Willow Street, and
the railroad bridge over Bass River
would be retrofitted.
The meetings on the $3.2 million
projectwillbeheldWednesdayatthe
YarmouthPolice Station, 340 Hig-
gins Crowell Road and Thursday at
the Dennis Senior Center on Route
134. Both will begin at 6:30 p.m.
