Mills mosquitoes Bird-biting species tests positive, low threat to humans at this point By David Still II dstill@barnstablepatriot.com. A mosquitosample from Marstons Millstested positive for eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), according to Barnstable Health Director Tom McKean. The good news is that mosquitoes species collected in this sample, culeseta melanura , are known to bite birds, not mammals, accordingto Gabnelle Sakolsky of the Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project. She added that a trap specifi - cally designed to trap mammal-biting mosqui- toes has shown very few insects at all. "There 's nothing flying that's biting mam- mals," she said. It's been 20 years since a castle was built behind Barnstable-West Barnstable Elementary School, and the people who helped make that happen through ahuge community effort are planning again. On Sept. 16,the community play- ground committee will rededicate the structure they and hundreds of others helped build two decades ago. Members of the planningcommit- tee sat down to recall the project last week, laughing, remember- ing and noting how much they've changed since then. What all of them remember most is to whom credit for the idea and the effort should be given: Nancy Cribari. She was new to the village, but brought an idea from the home in upstate New York that brought the BWB and greater Barnstable community together. While living in East Bloomfield, N.Y.,about 20 miles south of Roch- ester, Cribari and her husband weren't terribly involved in the community, but they decided to participate in the construction of a Robert Leathers and Associates playground at their children 's CONTINUED ON PAGE A:14 Christy's plans Osterville location Convenience chain will bring Dunkin' Donuts to the village By David Still II dstill@barnstablepatnot. com It'sbeen rumored, dismissed and rumored again, but this time, there 's something to it.
