New programs at the Boys
& Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club in Mashpee is
open Monday through Friday from 2 to 7
p.m. Teen nights are held each Wednes-
day night from 7 to 9 p.m. and every
Friday night from 7 to 10 p.m. Addition-
ally, the club is open every Saturday as
well during vacation weeks. Offerings
include photography, homework tutoring
and help, horseback riding, lacrosse, a
goal-setting program, karate, basketball,
dance, computer, career prep, healthy
living and much more. A satellite Boys
& Girls Club for grades 7 through 12 is
open at Mashpee High School where
there is computer support, games, tutor-
ing SAT and MCAS prep and much more
available. Sign up now for summer camp
being held at Camp Algonquin through
Aug. 25. Scholarships and payment

The Callanish School of Celtic Arts

A multi-arts summer program is of-

Heritage Museums & Gardens in
Sandwich presents Fridays Live! with
bug shows between 11 a.m. and noon
on the outdoor concert stage. Bring a

of Rover Dog Rescue in Buzzards Bay, the
MSPCA in Centerville, and People for Cats

Foster and adoptive
families needed
Social workers and local foster par-
ents are present the fourth Thursday of
every month from noon to 1 p.m. and
6 to 7 p.m. at the state Department of
Social Services , 32 Commercial St. in
South Yarmouth, to discuss foster par-
enting and adoption. Those interested

Coffee and an open mic
The YMCA of Cape Cod's coffee-
house for teens at Camp Lyndon in
Sandwich will be held the second and
fourth Saturday of each month from 7
to 9 p.m. Featured activities include
an open mike, musicians, dancing, an
art gallery, poetry readings and more.
Teens are welcome to perform or just
hang out. Admission is $2.

BLT's Annual 'Gifts from
the Sea' Benefit
Barnstable Land Trust's 12th Annual
"Gifts from the Sea" lawn party and
auction will be held at the scenic Bay-
view Farm property along Route 6A in
West Barnstable on Saturday, Aug. 19,
from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Bayview Farm is
a historic homestead that is the site of
a 10-acre of Land Preservation effort
of the Barnstable Land Trust and the
Nature Conservancy with the support
of local, federal, and state funding.
Tickets are $75 per person by send-
ing a check together with a stamped,
self-addressed envelope to Barnstable

Mummichog
Saturday, Aug. 5 - 2 - 3 p.m. Ever
wonder about the schools of fish you
sometimes see in the marsh channels?
Children and adults of all ages can
come learn to identify several types
of fish. Park in the South Cape Beach
State Park Lot and follow the board-
walk to meet the Park Interpreter.
All programs are free and open to
the public. Adults must accompany
children. Beach wheelchairs and as-
sistive listening devices available upon

Washburn Island Walk
Join the Washburn Island Managers of
Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research
reserve on Aug. 5th from 10 to 11:30am
for a walk about "Washburn Geology:
The Shifting Shape of a Barrier Island."
Space is limited, to make a reservation
for the boat call 508-457-0495 ext. 100,
or stop by the Reserve Visitor Center. If
you have your own boat no reservation
is required. Meet at Washburn Island at
10 a.m. on the south end of the island
on the inside shore of Eel Pond. Hike ap-
proximately 1 mile. The walk is free.
