raised at the fair will go to various local
charities, including the church's scholar-

celebration
St. Katherine's Philoptochos Society
of Cape Cod hosts its annual luncheon
celebration with musical entertain-
ment Aug. 15 at the St. George Greek

Cotuit ACTS Summer
Workshops
Free four-week Shakespeare work-
shops for actors are held as part of the
growing Cotuit ACTS (Actors' Circle
for Training in Shakespeare) program
started this year by Victoria McKee.
Remaining The Tempest workshops will
be held Aug. 10, 17 & 24 from 7-10 p.m.
All workshops are held at Freedom Hall,
976 Main Street, Cotuit with the excep-
tion of the Aug. 3 workshop which will
be held at the Cotuit Center for the Arts,
4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit. Participants must

Learn about the Coast
Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard Heritage
Museum at the Trayser on Route 6A
in Barnstable village presents the arti-
facts and stories of the life-saving ser-
vice. Open Tuesday through Saturday
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $3
(free to active Coast Guard members).
Teens invited to rec
nights
The YMCA of Cape Cod, Route 132 in
West Barnstable, hosts a Kids Night Out
Program when children are invited to
swim, play sports, create arts and crafts
and more, each Friday evening from 6 to

The NOAH Center emergency shelter

Nominations wanted
The Trustees of Whelden Memorial
Library are accepting nominations for
the Citizen of the Year Award to be
given to a West Barnstable resident.
Nomination forms are at the library,
the Cape Cod Cooperative, West
Barnstable Post Office and the Village
Store. The award is presented at the
annual West Barnstable Village Fest on
Aug. 19. Nominations due by Aug. 5.
CIGSYA activities
The Cape & Islands Gay & Straight
Youth Alliance has a dance room, cyber
center, library, TV room and game room
as well as several programs and activities.
There are monthly dances, support meet-
ings for all family members, movie nights,
pot-luck dinners, tutoring and mentoring.
CIGSYA is located at 56 Barnstable Road
in Hyannis and serves people 22 and
under. Circle for Youth meets from 3 to
5:30 p.m. on Mondays at the club house.
Activities include creative writing, visual
art, dance, theater and more.

Barnstable
The Cape Cod Conservatory on
Route 132 in Barnstable is offering
ballet, tap, jazz and belly dancing for

Katz one-night-only WHAT
benefit
Jonathan Katz brings his stand-up act
to Wellfleet's Congregational Church in a
special benefit performance for Wellfleet
Harbor Actors Theater. The show runs
one night only on Thursday, Aug. 10 at
7 p.m. at the church, 200 Mam Street,
Wellfleet. Tickets are $30 for general
admission and $75 for preferred seating,
which includes admission to a recep-
tion with Jonathan Katz. Tickets can

Community Foundation
auction Wednesday
The Community Foundation of Cape
Cod will benefit from an auction of con-
temporary and historic works by Cape
artists. Eldred's Auction Gallery hosts
the event Wednesday with an opening
reception at 5 p.m., sponsored by East-
ern Bank. There are 140 works available,
which can be viewed in person the day
of the auction beginning at 10 a.m. at
Eldred's, Route 6A in East Dennis. They

The auction will be held simultaneously

Skinner hosts auction at
closing Brewster store
Skinner, Inc., a leading auction house
for antiques and fine art, will host an
on-site auction at Kingsland Manor An-
tiques, 440 Main St. Route 6A, Brewster
on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. The
auction marks the closing of the Brew-
ster store after 35 years in business. Up
for auction will be the entire contents of
the shop including a variety of garden
statuary, weathervanes, pottery and
porcelain, silver, American & European
furniture, Victoriana, estate jewelry,
antique lighting, decorative metalwares,
and a wide selection of artwork includ-
ing marine paintings and assorted prints.

Community Cookout in
Harwich
Under the big tent at the Royal at
Harwich Village, 328 Bank Street, will
be a community cookout Sunday from
noon to 2 p.m. Live entertainment ,
