Group for youths The Barnstable Youth Commission and its Youth Empowered Through Learning Leadership advisory group meet at 2 p.m. every first and third Thursday in room 2108 at Barnstable High School when ages 13 through 19 are invited to discuss issues affecting the young people of Barnstable. Barnstable-Yarmouth Lions Club This organization of men and women raises funds for eye research and other community services. Free movies in Hyannis The Barnstable Senior Center, Route 28 in Hyannis, has free movie screenings twice a week at 1 p.m. All are invited to bring a lunch to munch through a show. Weekly films and food The Island Merchant, 10 Ocean St. in Hyannis, has screenings of popular films every Tuesday evening. Food and drink samples related to the film are served on the side at 7 p.m. The screenings are at 7:30 p.m. Admis- sion for the package is $15 or you can order off the menu. 'A Journey of Spirit' at Cape Cod Synagogue "A Journey of Spirit" an award- winning documentary film about the transformation of liberal Jewish worship over the last 30 years and the story of Jewish composer Debbie Friedman's life, will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug 12 at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St. Hyannis. The film's producer, Ann Coppel will speak. A wine and cheese reception, with entertainment by Julie Smily and Marc Howard singing some of Friedman's songs will precede the film. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The concerts in Falmouth will take place Friday evenings 6 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. at Peg Noonan Park, next to the Falmouth Public Library. The program for Falmouth includes Dancing Dogs on Aug. 11. In Dennis, Full Spectrum will perform Monday at 7 p.m. on the Dennis Vil- lage Green on Route 6A in Dennis. Full Spectrum also plays at Aselton Park on Hyannis Harbor, at the corner of Ocean and South Street, on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. Summer Concerts on Salt Pond in Eastham be performed Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in the amphitheater at the Salt Pond Visitor Center at Cape Cod National Seashore in Eastham. The Chandler Travis Philharmonic plays Aug. 16. Free jazz! The Cape Cod Jazz Festival is holding down the bandstand at the Wequassett Inn on Pleasant Bay at the Harwich/Chatham line this sum- mer. Ricardo Monzon and Dan Moretti play Aug. 8 and on Aug. 9 the Stan Strickland Quintet plays. Admission is free with a two-drink minimum. Beachcomber: tunes at the edge of the dunes Beside the sea in Wellfleet there lies a funky old rescue station that is now a restaurant and bar where mu- sic rings throughout the dunes calling old and young to dance the night away.
