association
The Cape Cod Art Association cam-

and its Youth Empowered Through
Learning Leadership advisory group

German-American Club
Members of the German-Ameri-

The Barnstable Newcomers Club

Contradances in Cotuit
A Contradance is held the second
Saturday of every month at Freedom

Garden club for children
The Master Gardeners Association
of the Cape Cod Cooperative Exten-

a garden club for youngsters. Meetings

tion Area in Marstons Mills on Newtown

Cape Cod Astronomical
Society meets at D-Y
All are invited to meetings of the
Cape Cod Astronomical Society at

Schmidt Observatory will take place
after the meeting. On Aug. 3, Larry
Marschall, professor of physics at

Group
The MTV Advisory Group of the
Barnstable Youth Commission meets
every first Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at
the Kennedy Rink on Bassett Lane

contra dance
A traditional New England contra
dance will be held the fifth Saturday (ex-
cept New Year's Eve) of each month from
8 to 11 p.m. Basic instruction will be of-
fered at 7:45 p.m. at the North Falmouth
Congregational Church, 155 Old Main
Road in North Falmouth. Admission is $6
for adults and free for children.
4-H activities
Students in grades 4 to 7 are

Free movies in Hyannis
The Barnstable Senior Center,
Route 28 in Hyannis, has free movie
screenings twice a week at 1 p.m. All
are invited to bring a lunch to munch
through a show.
Weekly films and food
The Island Merchant, 10 Ocean St.
in Hyannis, has screenings of popular
films every Tuesday evening. Food
and drink samples related to the film
are served on the side at 7 p.m. The
screenings are at 7:30 p.m. Admis-
sion for the package is $15 or you
can order off the menu.
'A Journey of Spirit' at
Cape Cod Synagogue
"A Journey of Spirit" an award-
winning documentary film about
the transformation of liberal Jewish
worship over the last 30 years and
the story of Jewish composer Debbie
Friedman's life, will be presented
at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug 12 at the
Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter
St. Hyannis. The film's producer, Ann
Coppel will speak. A wine and cheese
reception, with entertainment by Julie
Smily and Marc Howard singing some
of Friedman's songs will precede the
film. Tickets are $10 in advance and

Summer music on the
Greens
The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod
and the Citizens Bank Foundation will
offer free, weekly outdoor concerts
in four Cape Cod towns this sum-
mer. The concerts in Falmouth will
take place Friday evenings 6 p.m.
through 7:30 p.m. at Peg Noonan
Park, next to the Falmouth Public
Library. The program for Falmouth
includes Dancing Dogs on Aug. 11.
In Dennis, Full Spectrum will perform
Monday at 7 p.m. on the Dennis Vil-
lage Green on Route 6A in Dennis.
Full Spectrum also plays at Aselton
Park on Hyannis Harbor, at the
corner of Ocean and South Street,
on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. Summer
Concerts on Salt Pond in Eastham
be performed Wednesdays at 6 p.m.
in the amphitheater at the Salt Pond
Visitor Center at Cape Cod National
Seashore in Eastham. The Chandler
Travis Philharmonic plays Aug. 16.
Free jazz!
The Cape Cod Jazz Festival is
holding down the bandstand at the
Wequassett Inn on Pleasant Bay at
the Harwich/Chatham line this sum-
mer. Ricardo Monzon and Dan Moretti
play Aug. 8 and on Aug. 9 the Stan
Strickland Quintet plays. Admission
is free with a two-drink minimum. A
three-course dinner is available at 6:30

Musical revue in West
Harwich
Robert Wilder directs an evening of
music featuring a cast of twenty-some-
thing performers Aug. 11, 12, 18, 19,

Beachcomber: tunes at
the edge of the dunes
Beside the sea in Wellfleet there
lies a funky old rescue station that is
now a restaurant and bar where mu-
sic rings throughout the dunes calling
old and young to dance the night
away. Once again, the Incredible
Casuals return for Sunday afternoon
jams at 4. Admission is $8.

Arts Center
The John Pizzarelli Quartet offers
a tribute to "Dear Mr. Sinatra" Aug.
