completed the police academy and is
working part-time on the Wareham
force.
"I grew up in Kingston," she said,
"and kind ofrecently moved back from
Florida to find housing is way more
expensive here."
Hoover was renting in Sandwich,
but her goal last June was to buy a
house within a year. "I wanted to be
more financially secure," she said.
"I wanted my son to have a home
and a yard. Everybody should have
a home."
Hoover, who works at Community
Action Committee of Cape Cod &
Islands, stressed that "there really
are programs for working families"
that provide help in buying a house.
Her ownership is reflected in the new
hardwood floors she put down after
tearing up old carpet.
Up in the attic, Campbell showed a
reporter the two-part expandingfoam
that seals areas where interior walls
meet attic floors , a likely location for
leaks. Cold air, he said, seeks out hot
air, and when the two meet, you get
condensation , which causes mold.
The next upgrade for the Hyannis
house willbe a changeover from elec-
tric to gas heat.
"I'm so grateful," Hoover said.

Tao Gallery artist goes
to New York
Qin Feng, an artist represented
by the Tao Water Gallery in Den-
nis, will be part of a brush and
ink Chinese art of writing exhibi-

Cape towns share
wastewater wisdom
The efforts of two Cape Cod
towns to find the most cost-ef-
fective and publicly acceptable
sewer designs was made at ajoint
New England/New York Water
Environment Association confer-
ence recently. The presentation
was made by Matthew Berrelli,
Mashpee sewer commissioner;
William Redfield , Chatham water
and sewer department manager;
Nathan Weeks, senior associate,
and Russell Kleekamp, engineer,
both of Stearns and Wheler en-
gineering firm. The presenta-
tion documented the efforts of
Mashpee and Chathamto develop
low-cost sewer systems to col-
lect wastewater and protect the
coastal estuaries.
