TURKEY TROT - Seven of eight wild
baby turkeys look for easy pickings
on Southgate Drive, Hyannis, as
two mature birds were nearby for
several days last week visiting
most yards on the dead-end street.
The comeback kids are integrating
with the neighborhood since being
reintroduced to the Cape inthe late
'90s. They can fly a bit and snooze
in nearby trees at night.

LeaseforArmoryon
lastnight'sagenda
Thetowncouncilmayhaveput
its collective John Hancock -or
is that JollyRoger?-on a 25-year
lease for the Hyannis Armory
July 17. On the agenda was an
agreementwith225 South Street,
LLC, which wants to operate
a Real Pirates museum there
featuringartifacts from thepirate
ship Whydah.
The lease, whose term would
begin March 1, would bring the
town $25,000 in year 1, $50,000
per year inyears2to 5,$80,000in
years 6 to 15, $100,000 for years
16 to 20, and $120,000 for years
21 to 25. In the second year and
going forward, the rent would be
reduced by the amount of real
estate taxes paid to the town, but
not less than $24,000.
There is a provision that the
museum may be closed for 60
days in a year. The tenant pays
all utilities, maintenance and
repairscosts,andisresponsiblefor
"extensive" insurance coverage.

first is the Y program, which
"identifies kids in 8th grade who
are faltering and need support to
succeed through high school"
and provides same. Spacewillbe

Other steps include helping
"parents and the community
understand and navigate the
substance and mental health
services systems," providing
"community conversation on
youth drug abuse prevention"
through a community forum,
and supporting the town'syouth
commission.
The committee is also
concerned about access to
substance abuse treatment
programs locally for Cape Cod
teens and parents.
