Mrs. Ottille H, Rellly of New
York has been engaged for the
drat week of August to conduct
classes at Ciintasta , the new South
American rummy game which Is
sweeping the country.
M, M. .Meeker of Boston look the
prize for the llrst low gross score
in golf ,-while Ralph I). Hunt of Bel-
mont and Falmouth Cliff took hon-
ors for a llrst low net score. R. CI.
Dowllng of Hyannis was winner :
of the second low gross score, and
J. F. Tlmllty of Boston of the sec-
ond low net.

John William Spellman , Jr., son
of Dr. and Mrs. John \V. Spellman
of Chestnut Hill and Oyster Har-
bors, was married June 2S to Eliza-
beth Mary Halbritter, daughter of
Mrs. William Halbritter , in Paw-
tucket, Rhode Island. The ceremony
was performed by Francis Cardinal
Spellnian, uncle of the groom. Fol-
lowing a honeymoon at Wentworth-
by-the-Sea , Newcastle , New Hamp-
shire, the couple will be at home at
18 Sherman Road , Chestnut Hill.
Club members were saddened by
news of the deutli of Howard Ken-
worthy of Plnehurst, N. C, June
29. Mr. Kenworthy waa planning to
spend the season at Oyster Harbors.
His death was sudden and unex-
pected.

Clause f. Excavations.
1. All excavations shall extend to solid ground.
2. All excavations shall extend below the frost line.
3. All excavations close to adjacent buildings must he properly
shored. j
4. All excavations close to the street line must be properly fenced
to assure the public sufety.
Clause g. Footings.
1. All footings must be of poured concrete.
2. Minimum footings shall be aa followa:
1. Under foundations of one atory bulldinga, aix inches thick ,
and a three Inch projection on either Bide of wall. \
2. Under foundation of one and a half and not more than two
Btory bulldinga, eight inches thick, and a four inch pro-
jection on either aide of the wall.
\3. Under a twelve Inch' wall, the footing must project at leaBt
alx inches on either side of the wall , and be at least eight
inches thick.
4. Under all lally columns or posts, the footings must be at
least twenty inches by twenty inchea and eight inches
taick.
5. Under chimneys, the footings must project at least aix
indies on all aldea and be at leaat eight Inchea thick.
6. All lootings shall be of such width and thickness to safely
realat the auperlmpoaed load without exceeding at any point
the allowable bearing capacity of the soil.
7. Second loor joists shall be framed tho same as first floor.
8. When attic space above celling jolata la unfinished but is
usable for storage space, or If the space is suitable for
future habitable room or rooms, than spans will be the same
as first floor joists.
Clause h. Foundations.
Minimum requirements shall be as follows;
1. Six Inch thickness for poured concrete supporting one story
wood frame structure without basement.
2. Eight Inch thickness for all other poured walls.
3. Eight inch thickness for all masonry unit walla which extend
more than eight feet below finished grade. Maximum total
height of foundation wall and wall supported to be not more
than thirty feet to eaves and tblrty-flve feet to ridge.
4. Twelve inch thickness for all masonry unit walla that extend
more than eight feet below outside finished grade.
6. All foundations shall be of such width and thickness as to
safely resist the superimposed load without exceeding the
allowable working Btrength.
Clause 1. Piers for girders,
1. Girders must rest on solid masonry.
2. On block foundations , cells of blocks below girder must be filled
to form solid bearing, or,
3. Pilasters not less than four Inches by eight Inches shall be
built to receive girder enda, or columns may be used.

TOWN OF BARNSTABLE BUILDING CODE
SECTION 1. ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION
Clause a. The name and title of this by-law shull be "THE BU1L.D-
1NO CODE" and it shall be known und cited as such.
Clause b. The object and scope of this regulation are the governing
and regulating of the construction and erection, remodeling, alteration,
repairing and moving of buildings of any description In the Town, and
providing for the safety of all present and future buildings, and the
inte use of them, and providing for all other matters pertaining to
buildin gs and building operations In said Town.
Clause c. It shall be unlawfu l and subject to the penalties herein-
after provided for any person, persons, llrm or corporation to construct ,
erect, repair , alter, add to, move any building or portion thereof , or to
carry on any building operation in the Town, except In compliance
with the terms and provisions of the Code.
Clause d. Inspector of Buildings. The Board of Selectmen annually
In March, and subsequent to the Annual Town Meeting, shall appoint
an Inspector of Buildings to hold office for the term of one year from
the llrst day of April following and until his successor Is appointed and
qualified.
Clause e. The person appointed and qualified to act as Inspector
of Buildings shnll receive such salary or Compensation as shull be flxed
within the appropriation for the Inspector of Buildings. He shall have
no pecuniary interest direct or indirect in the making ot plana or speci-
fications or in the supplying of materials or labor for any building in
this Town, other than its own.
Clause f. He shall be under the supervision or the Board of Select-
men, and he shall be subject to such rules and regulations as they may
prescribe for the proper conduct of his office. He shall submit an annual
report In January of each year of the work of his office for publication
in the Town Report.
Clause g. The Inspector of Buildings shall make inspections of
all Building operations within the Town , and he may, for this purpose,
enter upon premises where such operations are carried on, at all rea-
sonable times, and report to the Board of Selectmen all violations of
this by-law and Building Code, or of the conditions of any permit issued.
Clause h. The Building Inspector shall have the authority to stop
the construction of any building, or the making pt any alteration or re-
puirs to any buildin g, w ithin said Town, when the same is being done
In a reckless or careless manner, or in violation of this Code, or any
ordinance of the Town.
Clause I. Any person aggrieved by a decision of the Building In-
spector may appeal from such decision to a Board consisting of the
Selectmen and the Town Counsel. Their decision shall be final.
Clause j. The Buildin g Inspector , with the approvul of the above
mentioned Board may give authorization for the use of construction
of materials not specified in this building code, providing they are of
equivalent strength and safety.
