Bv Eric Steinhilber, Precinct 2 Well , we survived Ar- thur and while the Fourth was a bit of a washout, Iwas happy to see that the weather rebounded nicely for the remainingholiday weekend. As is tradition in my family, we attended the Barnstable/West Barnstable parade. The rain held off, the kids had their bikes patrioticallydecorated, and there was a great crowd on hand to proudly celebrate our nation's independence. As a newly elected Town Councilor, this was my second parade joining fellow Council- ors to march, the first being the amazing Memorial Day parade and dedication that takesplace in Centerville each year. Half way through our first year together, the new Council has been great to work with and I have very much enjoyed working to help make our town the best it can be, while being a steward of our tax funds and striving for the most cost-effective solutions. Part of that work is serving as the Council liaison for citizen committees in the town. Cur- rently, Iserve asliaisonto theAir- port Commission, the Economic Development Commission, and as a member of the Council Ap- pointments Committee. These committeesand commissionsare critical to our town and help us to address the needs and issues across a wide spectrum of topics. Wehave worked diligently on the Appointments Committee these past few months to fill vacan- cies on all our committees to ensure they are able to function effectively. If you or someone you know may be interested in volunteering for a committee, please contact the TownCouncil office at 508-862-4738 or visit our website. Last month we completed our capital and operational budgetfor the 2014-2015 fiscalyear and will now begin work on prioritizing upcoming challenges and strat- egizing on how best to solve them for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. As part of this process we will be holding various workshops, in- cluding one at the end of July to discuss options for handling solid waste. These upcoming months are important as we prepare for the next budget cycle and they are also important to hear from folks around town. Iran for TownCouncil to serve not only Precinct 2, but all of Barnstable and to have open lines of communication. I encourage all of our citizens to contact us and/or attend the Town Council meetings to express your con- cerns and share your ideas. To that end, I also hold regular office hours the second Wednesday of the month between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. at my Financial Services office located at 1060 Falmouth Road in Hyannis. You may also contact me at 508-271-4501 or ERSteinhilber@gmail.com. I'm here to help, so I encourage you to reach out with any particular concerns or issues. I am very thankful that I was elected to serve as a Town Coun- cilor in the town my wife and I grew up in and the town where we now raise our kids. I am very proud to be able to serve our community and I will continue to work hard and do my best to help my constituents in Precinct 2 and folks all across Barnstable. I look forward to hearing from you soon, but in the meantime, have a safe, healthy, and happy summer! Summer Clearance Specials 0 HM !W' Xl ^LMK^^^SI Renovations make Centerville evenbetter By Kathleen Szmit kszmit@barnstablepatnot.corr KATHLEEN SZMIT PHOTOS HAPPY TO HELP - Library volunteers Judi Sherlock (L) and Lori Feenstra assist patrons at the front desk , while Kristen Battaglia works in one of the library's offices in back. LOOKING FOR A BEACH READ? - Patrons of the Alice Owen Williams Bookstore at the Centerville Public Library look for a good book, or perhaps something to fulfill their summer reading list. Need a book? How about a movie for the family to watch? Is your computer confusing you again? Need a place to hold a meeting? Well, the answers to all these questions - and more - can be found at the Centerville Public Library, where old and new have combined to create a wonder- ful space. Not too long ago, renova- tions of the beloved village library were complete, and in recent weeks visitors have been welcomed into a more spacious, more up-to-date Centerville Library. According to Library Direc tor Beth Butler, change was necessary due to increasingly cramped conditions. Thanks to the efforts of Cape Associ ates and countless supporters of the local library, change happened in the form of a 4,500-square-foot addition. The addition/expansion/ renovation allowed for new spaces to be created within the library that paved the way for more activities, greater efficiency work-wise, and hap pier patrons overall. One of the most significant advances came in the library 's ability to house more books. "We were having to discard thousands of items a year and put them in our bookstore," said Butler. Now, the book lending section of the library is more extensive, and is artfully ar- ranged much like a bookstore, with sections clearly labeled to make it easier for patrons to find just what they 're look- ing for. The added space also al- lowed for the creation of a Teen Room , outfitted with two touchscreen laptops , donated by a local philan- thropist , and a number of comfortable beanbag chairs, perfect for after-school study sessions. The Children's Room fea- tures a train table and a seem- ingly endless array of books, as well as happily displayed arts and crafts projects that CONTINUED ON PAGE A:9 Goingto the library FROM THE VILLAGES Farmersmarkets areopen The Barnstable Farmers Mar- ket is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon on the grounds of Barnstable Superior Court House in Barnstable Village through Sept. 6.
