MORAL READINGS.
Doing <3oo(g.
Rvery mind has a mission to 'fulfil , an influence to
be felt, either for good or for evil ; and none are so
lost , so degraded , but that some spark of moral fire
u burning within their bosom—and that little spark ,
thoug h faint and feeble, may kindle a bright and
glow ing flame. Say not it is too insi gni ficant , too
(r ifling to accomp lish any usefu l end. Whatever is
good , is worth y of preservation , is worthy of cultivar
tion , The little germ of truth you throw by t he
way-side "'ill not be lost—it shall not perish ; no! it
will bu guarded and nurtured by ange ls, and shall
flourish forever J
We should not fail , t hen, to speak one kind woi d
at least to cheer the wounded sp irit , Thin k not ,
when some wamjerer crosses your way, t hat a word
of warning will be of no avail ; thoug h the err ing
one,may scorn your counsel , that friendl y word will
come to him again , and lead ihe spirit that hath gone
astray back to Il|u palli of virtue , Words of counr
sol , spoken in love will never ,be forgotten ; faithfu l
memory will treasure them up, and t he fittin g time
wil l come for them to do their good work-
Think not , then , a look of kindn ess, an act ol
love , however trifling may seem the ward ol friendl y
ndmonitior. , thin k them not thrown away, whenever
t he oppoilunity to speak , to act , is seen ; then do
your duty, your good deed will be recorded in
Heaven—and you will find even here on earth , a
fu ll and satisfactory reward I
When Iftilh ur was at Cobuig he wrote to a friend ,
'"I was latel y looking out of my window at ni ght ,and
I saw the surs in the heavens , sind God's great
beautifu l arch over my head , but I could 'not see
any pillars on which the great Builder had fi.^ed
th is arch ; and yet 'thu heavens fell not , anil (he
great arch stood firml y. There are some who are
always feeling for the pillars , and long ing to touch
them. And because they cannot touch them , they
stand trcmbling ^and fearing lest th e heavens shotili

Worcester Co., Mass., a member of the Massachusetts
Medical Society.

"Dr. Stephen Jewett : ¦ "
Dear Sir—I speak with confidence , having used tk
Elixir in my own practice , and I unhesitatingly recommend
it as a safe, valuable and highly useful family medicine.
I consider it indeed a family medicine , and a ranedy
for Coughs, Colds, and that dreaded disease the Lroup,
for which it is far ,superior to any other preparati on hi-
fore the public.
I have used your Health Restoring Bitters in my prac-
t ice, and have found them very serviceable in Dyspep-
sia, Humors, General Debility, and particularly in IJahl-
ual Cosliveness. I consider it one of the best remedies
in use. Yours , &c. IRA RUSSELL, M. P."

State of New Hampshire.

'Dr. S. Jewett :
Dear Sir—I have examined your Pulmona ry Ehxtft
and am well satisfied that, it merits the full confidence
of the community, as being whe.t it purports to be, a"
efficient and safe remed y for all the diseases to wliicn
th e respiratory organs are subject. It may be used witj
much more safety "than almost any other article offered
for this purpose , inasmuch as the danger of impaired
action of those organs , the frequent and leg itim ate.re-
sults of most other remedies of the class, by reason ot
their opiat e charact er, is , by this , entirel y obviated. _
The physician who should meet with "it in families
would find it a ready assistant , by which his own h'1'0'
in the dispensation of medicine would be obviated , an"
his efforts for relief essentially aided.
With much consideration , your obed 't serva nt-
