Her son, Bobby, resides in
the familyhome in Barnstable,
while Elizabeth lives in West
Yarmouth, Carolyn Fenton
lives in Florida , and Jean
Coleman resides in South
Carolina.
Elizabeth recalls her mother
as a social, friendly woman.
"If there 's someone a little
depressed [at Cape Regency]
they bring Mom in to see
them," she said.
Indeed , Coleman had kind
words for everyone wjp passed
by on the patio outside Re-
gency'scafeteria. "Hello dear,"
she said to one woman. "We
were roommates. Do you
remember?" The woman did
and was pleased Coleman
remembered her.
When asked the secret of her
longevity, Coleman attributed
it to honesty, decency, treat-
ing others with respect , and
eating all kinds of vegetables.
"I don't have a favorite ," she
said, noting that she often
threw them into her special
Hodgepodge Soup that con-
tained "everything but the
kitchen stove."
Elizabeth agrees , adding
that everything her mother
ate on the farm was natural.
"Nothing that she ate was
chemical or had preserva-
tives ," she said.
"My life wasn't easy," said
Coleman. "But , you know."
With that she offered a win-
ning smile, her sea-blue eyes
sweeping over the flowers
blooming nearby. "Isn't it
beautiful here?"
She's still the one...
