JOLLY WALLY - On Tuesday, June 6 Wally, the
Boston Red Sox mascot , visited Centerville
Elementary to wish a special "Happy Birthday" to
Miss Burns,our principal,who isatrue Red Soxfan!
Wally even took time to sign hats for the children
entering the building and pose for a group photo
with the staff. What a wonderful surprise!

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS. Well, it's
finally here and June has started off with
a blast of activity. The first graders went
to Buttonwood Zoo, Young Authors had a
celebration ,the SpringDance washeld,third
graders went to the Centerville Historical
Museum, the fourth grade Chorushad their
Spring Concert , the second graders went
on the Harbor Cruise and the kindergarten
children visited the Centerville Library!
Best of all, next week is FIELD DAY! Have
awonderful summer with your children.. .be
safe and have fun!
SPECIALEVENTS: The HawaiianBeachParty
Spring Dance was a huge success. Thank
you to Marybeth Mullen for organizing a
great family night out , and also to all of
the parents who helped during the night.
Everyone had lots of fun! A special thank
you to all of the volunteers who helped
throughout the year in the classrooms, on
field trips, with fundraisers , dances, bake
sales, etc.
RECOGNITION: As aresult of the decreased
enrollment, some of our teachers will be
moving next year. Mrs. Cambareri will
be teaching at Hyannis East Elementary,
Miss Mulholland is moving out of state
and Mrs. Darrah is retiring. We will miss
each of you!

AT THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE: Fourth
grade students from Cotuit Elementary
gave a presentation to the School Com-
mittee at the June 6 meeting in the Town
Hall Meeting Room, giving a report on their
project on nutrition in response to the
Town'sWellness Project of 2006. Under the
direction of Health Specialist Karin Schulz
and Fourth-grade teacher Diane Rhude
the children had studied federal nutrition
guidelines, composed their own cookbook
of healthy snacks, and, in conjunction with
members of the 4-H Club, held a snack
fair at the Cotuit Elementary cafeteria for
other students to learn about and sample
nutritious and healthy snacks.
THANK YOU PRINCIPAL LEARY: As the
faculty, students and PTO parents of Co-
tuit/MM School warmly welcomed their
new principal, Mrs. Karen Stonely with a
reception at the Marstons Mills cafe and
during her recent visits to each of the
school campuses, they are honoring their
present principal Susanne Leary with a
retirement party and with expressions of
their appreciation of her outstanding and
caring leadership during her 14 years at
the school. Their deep feelings of regret at
her leaving and of best wishes for a happy
retirement are heartfelt.
PLAYING CAPE HISTORY : Third-grade
students are presenting a play about the
history of Cape Cod. Directed by their
teacher, Mrs. Ellen Erhard and written
by Mrs. Erhard and her husband, William
Erhard who is third-grade teacher at the
OstervilleSchool,thisplay willbe performed
for the children's parents on June 12 at 6:30
PM in the Cotuit cafeteria.
FIRE FIGHTER PHIL: Fire Fighter Phil will
be presenting a special fire safety program
to the first and second grade students at
the Marstons Mills Campus on June 14.

Cape Cod Technology Council is sponsor-
ing a one day Workshop in Photoskill for

BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEWS: The Board
will be having an end-of-year meeting on
Thursday, June 29 at 7 a.m. in our Library.
Following the regular meeting, the Annual
Meeting will be held which will serve as a
wrap-up of the school year. Board meet-
ings are open to the public and all are
welcome.
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: The staff at
the BHMCS wishesto thank allthe parents
who participated in the Parent/Guardian
School Survey. This input helps us, as an
educational community; meet the needs
and concerns of both parent and child. The
results of this survey will continue in the
improvement of servicing the students of
BHMCS to obtain their highest potential.
Return them to the BHMCS by June 9,
2006.
SPECIAL EVENTS: The 6 Grade will be
attending the Raptor Project in our Gym-
nasium. Jonathan Wood is an expert in
the handling and knowledge of "Birds of
Prey." His traveling exhibition is a unique
opportunity for our students to get "up
close and personnel" with these magnifi-
cent animals. On Tuesday the 13 of June,
students of BHMCS will be participating in
the annualField Dayevents.Haveyour child
wear comfortable clothing and remember
the sun screen!
RECOGNITION: Ms. Mandeville's Gateway
student' s have completed their "Doll
House" project and are donating it to the
Cape Cod Housing Authority. It was an
effort in creativity that models the dream
of many to have a "Home." Thank you to
Ms. Mandeville and her students.
SUMMER READING: Summertime is agreat
season for your child to escape into a book.
Any book! Regardless of the level, this will
help maintain their skills and perhaps im-
prove them with the relaxed enjoyment of
entertaining themselves over those hazy,
lazy days of summer.
