grants are pouring into this oily, and the mines , in a
constant stream , and we t rust and believe tha t all
their reasonable antici pations will be realized to the.

The following passengers in shi p Argonaut from
Boston , which arr ived at San Francisco a few weeks
- 6juce, were drowned by the capsizing of the yawl in
Innding : A. H. Colmnan , W. J. Sawyer , George
Wells , D. VV. Lawrence , W. W. Pool , and anot her
unknown.
The accounts from the mining regions are very
satisfactory .and it is believed t hat of those employed
in these operations , the majority are realizing a fair
remuneration lor their labor.
The city of New Bedford lias appr opriated one
thousand dollars , says the Stan dard , for the celebra-
tion of the 4th of Jul y.

in a Fair, for the benefit of the Unitarian Church , are
in vited to meet at the hou ae of Mrs. Rachaet, Whit-
man, on T H U R SD A Y EVENING , June 6ih. at 7 1-2
o'clock, for the purpose of making such preliminary ar-
ran gements as may lie deemed necessary. A general

fro m Teneriffe, reports bein g in cont act with fishing sch
Statesman , when the crew of the S all got on board the
J A R , and were taken to New York. Neither vessel,
it is stated ,received any serious damage.
Brig T C Mather , of Dennis,wiecked at Brid gchamp-
ton , has betn sold for S45.
Sch Denmark , of Boston , which went ashore at Ca-
noe Place, LI, 12th inst , has been sold with all her ma-
terials for $550. Her cargo had been reshi pped to
Boston.
Sch Edi th , of Harwi ch, supposed from a mackerel
cruise, put i nto New York , 21 st to land a seaman , nam-
ed Chase, who had been struck by ligh tning.

since which nothing reliable has been heard concerning
her, t hough it is rumored that she was seen to «o down
by a Cape Ann smack. Edmund , son of Mr. Olivei
Norton , of Edgartown, aged aIn 18, was one of the crew.
