She was the mother of the late Daniel F.
Whelton.
A memorial Mass was celebrated at Our
Lady of Victory Church in Centerville.

Alfred T. Whitney, 83
Osterville - Alfred T. Whitney, 83, died
May 12, 2006. at the VA Medical Center in
Providence , R.I.
He was the husband of Beverly A. (Larsen)
Whitney.
Mr. Whitney was born in Maynard , where
he lived until moving to Osterville 23 years
ago.
A veteran of World War II, he served with
the Navy Seabees. He served in the uniform
branch of the Massachusetts State Police,
where he was an expert in narcotics investi-
gation. He retired after 23 years as a lieuten-
ant. He later worked as chief of security at
Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 1969
to 1989, where he also updated the campus
police department.
In the 1970s he was a selectman in the
town of Maynard.
He was a member of the Maynard American
Legion Post, and the Maynard Elks.
He was also a member of the Retired State
Troopers 'Association, Osterville Association
and Hickory Hill Association.
Besides his wife, survivors include three
sons, Alfred T.Whitney Jr., Bruce T.Whitney
and Darryl S. Whitney, all of Maynard; asister.
Gertrude Doyle; and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Glenwood
Cemetery in Maynard , followed by acelebration
of his life at the Maynard Lodge of Elks.

RELIGIOUS NOTES
Meditation offered for beginners
The Cape Sangha, a Zen Buddhist meditation
group, meets Sundays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at
the Old Schoolhouse on Route 6A in Barnstable
Village. All are welcome, and basic instruction in
meditation is offered to beginners.
Zen Center presents weekly
meditation
The CapeCod Zen Center has weekly meditation
practice at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable,
Barnstable Village on Route 6A. The Tuesday
morning group meets at 8 for meditation in the
RE area downstairs. There is meditation instruc-
tion on Fridays at 6:40 p.m. in the library and a
Friday Evening Group meets in the library, behind
the sanctuary, at 7 for meditation. There are also
retreats, field trips to the Providence Zen Center

Bible studies for women in WB
The West Barnstable Community Center on
Route 149 is the location for a women's Bible
study, open to all women, Wednesday mornings
