For the fishermen and women in the crowd, Al Brewster of Trout Unlimited held a fly tying demonstration compli- mented nicely later in the day by West Barnstable resident Chip Gouger's fly fishing how-to. For the wee ones the Americorps-Cape Cod puppet show about recycling was a big hit. The interactive play proved as entertaining as it was educational. Children were also treated to fun and games by the water's edge with several age-appropriate activities. There was Fred the Fish and the Urban Stew, and kids could make their own water cycle bracelets to remember the day. Parents could purchase a hand-made commemo- rative tile, designed and produced by The Artisan's Studio and Marketplace. Of course,the main reason for the event was to help residents learn more about the waters of Marstons Mills. Beneath a tent that served as the hub of festivities, displays by local clubs and commissions provided a wealth of information about con- servation, preservation and what citizens can do to improve water quality in local watersheds. "River Day is primarily designed to show- case the watershed so that residents can become good stewards to their own watershed ," said Kris Clark , coordinator of the event. PEOPLE Small and Rogers to wed Bonnie Perry of Cotuit and Robert Rogers of Centerville announce the engagement of their son Christopher Drew Rogers of Orlando, Fla., to Stacee Nicole Small, also of Orlando. Her parents are Del and Kathy Small of Gainesville, Fla. The bride-elect graduated from Gainesville High School, Gainesville; Stetson University, Deland; and Rollins College, Winter Park, all of Florida. The bridegroom-elect graduated from Berkshire School, Sheffield , Mass.; Stetson University; and Cen- tral Florida Fire Academy, Orlando. A June 24 wedding is planned at Championsgate in Orlando. Crocker celebrates 100th birthday Dorothy Crocker, a resident of Harbor Point in Centerville, turned 100 May 23. She has two children and grew up in the Boston area. When not traveling extensively she worked at her ice cream shop, where she made 29 flavors other own homemade ice cream before retiring. Scout gets his wings PatrickJ.McNamara II of Buzzards Bay has earned Eagle Scout rank, in part for organizing a flag retirement ceremony in Hyannis last year. He is amember of Troop 54 in Centerville, a 2005 graduate of Barnstable High School, and attends Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Rockett to the wild blue yonder Twelve-year-old Tucker James Rockett of Falmouth has been se- lected as the 102nd Fighter Wing's next "Pilot for a Day" on May 25 at Otis Air National Guard Base. He will be picked up in a Humvee to be transported to the base where he will be given his wings, a flight suit and promotion to the rank of Captain. Capt. Rockett will inspect the base, do a preflight inspection and sit in his own F-15 Eagle. "Pilot for a Day"is a U.S. Air Force program which focuses on young people who are either handicapped or stricken with life-threatening illness.
