Plymouth South, before falling out of tourna-
ment contention with a loss to Somerset.
The power was in the pitching as Tashauna
Ashmeade and Danielle Cotellessa turned
in a shutout game, allowing only two hits
in nine innings by Plymouth. "Our pitchers
were able to silence that team," said head
coach Jen Police of the 6-0 score. "They threw
shutout ball."
Ashmeade pitched impressively into the
third inning when Cotellessa came on the
mound, continuing the solid pitching.
Defensively the team was focused and
strong, thwarting any efforts from Plymouth
South. "It was errorless defense,"said Police.
"We made the plays that we had to make."
Offensively the Raiders'bats were cracking.

STEP ON IT - Avery Farnham crosses the plate
duringthe BMS girlssoftball game against Nauset on
Monday. The girls beat Nauset 8-6 but fell to Wixon
on Tuesay, 13-10.
It's been a week of highs and lows for
the Barnstable Middle School girlssoftball
team. On Monday the girlsdefeated Nauset
8-6 but fell to Wixon 13-10 on Tuesday.
Monday 'sgame was anail-biter withthe
Raiders falling behind after two scoreless
innings. With two outs on the board, the
BMS bats woke up with Avery Farnham
reaching first on a Nauset error before
moving on to second after a single from
Shae Costello.
Both girls stole bases before Caroline
Murray brought them in with a grounder
that Nauset's first base player was unable
to rein in.
Defensively the team's reflexes were
quick with pitcher Lindsay Grover retir-
ing batters and Jacqui DiCicco keeping a
solid eye on any hits.
In the end it was base running and a
blooper hit that netted the girls their
win.In the final inning of the game, Alana
Driscoll walked to first before moving to
second on aground out. Driscollthen stole
third and scored on a passed ball.
With two strikes against her, Nancy
Mamlock hit a wobbly ball down the right
field line that bounced of the edge of a
Nauset glove, allowing Lauren Logan and
Rachel Lynn to score, bringing the final
tally to 8-6.
Hopes of continuing their undefeated
season ended at Wixon, though, as the
girls were trumped on Tuesday.
Barnstable took an early lead against
their Dennis opponents,with Lindsay
Grover striking out but reaching first on a
passed ball. She then stole second, made
her way to third on a double from Avery
Farnham, and advanced to home on a
line drive double from "Sweet" Caroline
Murray.
Errors by BMS allowed Wixon to gain a
6-3leadinthe bottom ofthe second.Wixon
continued to prevail, tallying four more
runs to Barnstable's three, bringing the
score to 10-3 at the start of the fourth.
In spite of a rally by BMS, which gar-
nered them sixruns,the girlsjust couldn't
overcome Wixon. Nonetheless, the girls
put forth a tremendous effort, refusing to
go down quietly.
Defensively LaurenLogan,Nancy Mam-
lock and Allie Liimatainen were terrific,
while Caroline Murray and Kristin Moran
hit the ball well.
The team takes to the road on Tuesday
against Harwichbut will be home against
Carver on Thursday.
