$6 million.
We are working with a large
number of supporters seeking
and increase in Connecting
Activities funding. This pro-
gram provides high school
students with work experi-
ence and career exploration.
Currently there is $4.1 million
dollars statewide for this ac-
tivity. This amount supports
15 programs in almost every
WIB area in the state. We are
trying to increase the total
amount to $7.1 million.
The Cape &Islands is seek-
ing funding, through an ear-
mark (directing existingfund-
ing to a specific program) to
continue our 55+ program.
I am happy to be able to re-
port that we are in both the
House and Senate versions
of the budget , and anticipate
continued funding for the
program. Many, many thanks
to our legislative delegation ,
all of whom have supported
this program.
We are working with the
State Workforce Board Asso-
ciation on several initiatives,
including $11 million for the
Workforce Competitiveness
Trust Fund; $500,000 for the
Workforce Accountabilit y
Task Force; $32,322 million
for Adult Basic Education;
and $20 million for Employ-
ment and Trainingservicesfor
food stamp recipients.
In past years our efforts
were just to maintain sup-
port for our programs. Now
that state revenues are up,
we are hoping to be able to
provide funding at levels that
will permit us to serve more
individuals. Of course , so is
everyone else in the state.
I will report the status of
these requests in a future
column.
