If April showers bring May flowers then May flowers must bring...No , not Pilgrims. Bees! Before you grab your swatters, note that these bees are honey bees, busily making honey for patrons of-Main Street's newest shop, Bee and Blossom. Located in an ideal spot at 675 Maia St.,Bee and Blossom is the brainchild of budding entrepre- neur,Lou Anne Colombo. "I really do like the location," she said. "I'm visible on all sides." The combination floral shop, tearoom, honey haven, and gift emporium emerged from Co- lombo's love of beekeeping and flowers and a desire to create a business that entwined the two. "I've been aflorist for many years and also a beekeeper," she said. "It's a cross pollination." Visitors to Colombo's cheery shop will have a lovely time Angering over the multitude of fresh flowers and plants inseveral shades of green.Fromtinytopiar- ies to spectacular arrangements, all avenues are covered. Those in need of a special-oc- casion gift, or simply something for themselves, willfind an array of floral-themed items including photo frames, gift boxes, jewelry, heavenly perfumes, accessories, and stationery. Tea is also an important ele- ment of Bee and Blossom. Not only do they sell subtly aromatic blends from Tea Forte, which come in their own silk infusers, but Bee and Blossom also has a cozy little cafe tucked into its back corner. Delectable baked goods such as scones, flourless chocolate torte , biscotti, muffins and cook- ies are available for the desirous. Be sure to sample them with a cup of samovartea. "Samovartea is tea that is made in a samovar," said Colombo. "The Samovar heats the water to the perfect temperature for tea." Of course, what pairs better with tea than honey? Visitors to Bee and Blossom will soon learn that honey iswhat the shop is all about. From Lou Anne's own sweet golden syrup made with honey from her own bees, to a wonderful variety of honey products, Bee and Blossom has it all. Burn a candle made from real beeswax or soothe your skin by washing with soap made with honey, proven to be an excellent moisturizer.Kids and adultsalike can watch as honey ismade right on the premises. Because bees and beekeeping are so important to Colombo there are numerous displays throughout the store that pro- vide information on the benefits of honey, aswellaswhat beekeep- ing involves. For those who wish to delve further into the realm of royal jelly (bee food proven to improve one's health) , Colombo not only stocks beekeeping information and supplies, she plans to hold talks as well. "I am trying to promote bee culture by offering to help people become beekeep- ers," she said. For flower lovers the shop plans to hold floral arranging classes, and for tea connoisseurs, after- noon teas willbe held at the main table inside the shop. This afternoon , Colombo cel- ebrates her move to Main Street with an opening party from 3 to 6 p.m. The shop will serve complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres while Lou Colombo, Dick Johnson and Joe Delaney provide musical entertainment. If you can't make it, don't fret. At the end of the month Bee and Blossom'shours willbe extended to 8a.m. until 6p.m. and the cafe will expand its menu to include sandwiches.Don't forget to treat yourself to adecadent chocolate truffle with honey essence for dessert.
