From your Councilor...

review process this year. Un-
fortunately, CFAC's budget
responsibilities had been over-
looked by prior councils dur-
ing the last several years, but
I am committed to have CFAC
do the job they are charged
with doing under law, for the
benefit of the councilors and
the tax payers who expect
nothing less. I trust you are
supportive of an independent
budget committee assisting
the council with the budget
review.
Road updates
The railroad crossing over
Route 6A in West Barnstable
will be closed for repairs from
May 22 through 25. That
means the detour used when
the work was done there last
year will be back in place
again, so plan accordingly. The
Route 132 widening project
will see bids opened July 11
with a contract executed and
work started this fall. It will
take three years to complete
the project.
Affordable Housing:
The two affordable hous-
ing projects - 12 units at
Lombard and 28 units next to
the YMCA facility - are ready
to have leases signed and
get started. That means the
West Barnstable Affordable
Housing Study Committee
will be getting together soon
to review how our requested
changes are incorporat ed int o
the projects.
Nstar - Oak Street
The town, through Tom
Geiler.has been working with
NStar officials to get the en-
t rance to the facility on Oak
Street spiffe d up according
to their original proposal.
NStar agreed to alandscaping
program but has not finished
the place off yet. If there are
no more improvements soon,
KrisClark and I will pay them
a visit.
Emergency Preparedness
Chief Maruca is working
with the Civic Association
and WBFD on developing an
emergency plan. He has book-
lets that have helpful tips on
surviving that residents can
pick up. He also has a sample
emergency portable kit that
he encourages us all to create
so we can leave our homes in
a hurry if necessary.
Committee vacancies
There are several commit-
tee vacancies and the Council
Appointments Committee
is requesting that you send
in a short resume listing
your experiences and areas
of interest. We are building
an inventory of interested
citizens to tap when vacancies
occur. If you don't have an ap-
plication, visit the town'sWeb

PITCHING A TENT - Bill Clark , director of the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Service , believes this nest belongs to the Eastern tent caterpillar. While damaging
to wild cherry trees (sometimes crabapples and lilacs as well) these caterpillars are quite picky, so are no threat to maples or oaks.
