What's up at the Cahoon?
The Cahoon Museum of American
Art, 4676 Route 28 in Cotuit, offers
docent tours every Friday at 11 a.m.
Classes include Sailor's Valentine,
folk painting, watercolor, bird carving,
and more. A display of fiber art that
focuses on faces and figures is on
exhibit through May 14. Paintings by
Thomas B. Higham are on display May
9 through June 25. A reception to meet
the artist is May 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. A
gallery talk by the artist is May 16 at 11

Old Selectman's Building
Art Gallery
The season at the gallery is now
upon us at the Old Selectman 's Build-
ing Art Gallery, Route 149 in West
Barnstable, where Barbara Stone
exhibits pastel landscapes with Tim
Johnson showing acrylic illustrations
through May 7. The next show is May
10 through 14 when Pat Hopkins ex-
hibits watercolors and more. Another
follows May 17 through 21 when San-
dra O'Connor shows her watercolors.
Cotuit Center for the Arts
The Cotuit Center for the Arts,
4404 Route.28, has classes for
adults and children in painting, life
drawing, mixed media, assemblage,
hatha yoga and more. An exhibition,
"Mindflow, Subconscious Art of the
Soul," is on display through May 20.

Dennis Public Library, 5 Hall Street
in Dennisport, will be hosting an ex-
hibit of Asian art created by Roberta
Silbret and others who are exploring
Sumi-e art at the Sandwich Com-

Abstract artist exhibits in
Orleans
In a solos show, Melora H. North
exhibits her monotypes and acrylic

2006 Cape & Islands
Whale Trail
Check out more than 50 hand-
painted whale sculptures located
across Cape Cod May 27 through
Sept. 16. Six feet long, the mammals
will be displayed individually or in

Heritage Gardens and
Museums
The museums and gardens are
open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in
Sandwich where the shell work of Ev-
elyn Way Kendall is on exhibit along
with "The Automobile Comes to Cape
Cod" vignette. Check out the 1899
Winton and the 1908 Sears Surry, the
1904 Curved Dash Olds and others.
An exhibit of sea paintings by Charles
Patterson opens May 12.
Open studios and more
in Mashpee
Thursday and Friday mornings from
10 a.m. to noon, through spring, the
Art For Giving gallery, 27 Fountain
St. in Mashpee Commons , will hold
open studio time after which there
will be a gentle critique. Use your
own materials or the studio equip-
ment. Admission is $12 to $18 and
pre-registration is required by calling
508-477-2121. Ten percent of the
proceeds go to charity.
Art for Young People, ages 12 to
18, is held Thursdays from 3:30 to 5
p.m. The fee is $12, and pre-registra-
tion is required.
Creative Arts Center
The Creative Arts Center, Crowell
Road in Chatham, hosts art exhibi-
tions, lectures, workshops and classes.

New exhibits and more at
CCMA
As part of the 25 exhibits planned
for its 25th year, the Cape Cod
Museum of Art is showing works by
Joseph E. Enneking (1881-1942), a
well-known regional impressionist
landscape painter, represented in ma-
jor museums. Also on display is work
by John Joseph Enneking. The exhibit
runs through May 21. Cynthia Pack-
ard exhibits 10 new large works, 12
ft. by 12 ft., through May 7. Fielding
Brown exhibits mathematical-related
wooden and multi-media art through
May 7. Take a trip to Winterthur,
Country Estate and Longwood Gar-
dens in Maryland and Delaware June
8 through 10. Register by May 15.
Michael Rogovsky exhibits land-
scapes through May 7 and through-
out the year works by Cape teachers
Charles Hawthorne, Henry Henche,
R. H. Ives Gammell and Hans Hoff-
man will be on display. Works by their
students, such as Hilda Neily, Sal
Del Deo, Haynes Ownby, Harry Holl,
Arnold Geissbuhler, Varujan Bogho-
sian and Robert Douglas Hunter, to
name a few, will also be exhibited,
all in honor of the 25th anniversary.
Marine art of the Cape and the sea is
displayed through June 18.
Adult studio classes offered are still
life oil painting, stained glass, bas-
relief sculpture, digital photography,
contemporary film, more. Call for

The Master Gardeners Association
