Police overtime
request moved to
May 18
A $50,000 request for to
cover additional overtime
in for the Barnstable Police
was expected to be continued
to the May 18 town council
meeting. Police Chief John
Finnegan was unable to at-
tend this week'scouncil meet-
ing to discuss the request.

2 p.m. on the town'sproposed
Growth Incentive Zone for
downtown Hyannis.The Cape
Cod Commission has already
approved the plan that would
allow Barnstable to regulate
its own growth up to agreed
thresholds.
The full Assembly has un-
til June 7 to vote on the
request.
More tree talk
For the ninth year ,
Barnstable has done enough
to protect its resources to
be named a Tree City USA
by the National Arbor Day
Foundation.
Tomark the occasion,mem-
bers of Connecticut' s Rotary
District 7980,in town for their
district conference , planted
a snowdrift crab tree at the
West End rotary in Hyannis
yesterday, where it willstand
by the "Welcome" sign pro-
vided by the Rotary Club of
Hyannis.
Long walk on Long
Beach
Conservation Administra-
tor Rob Gatewood leads a
two-hour , three-plus mile
walk along Long Beach and
the Centerville River May
13 at 10 a.m. The sponsor is
Barnstable Land Trust.
Meet at the CraigvilleBeach
parking lot beach house, and
wear your hard-soled shoes.
Bring a bag to help keep the
area clean.
