POLITICALPOTPOURRI Impeachment debate is May 12 Impeachment - the how, the why, the why not - will get a full airing May 12 at 7 p.m. at Cape Cod Community College at a public forum titled "Should Bush/Cheney be Impeached Now?" Polar opposites Peter White , independent candidate for Congress, and Cape Cod Times columnist Francis Broadhurst wiil give the pro and con views, respectively. They'll be joined by Times columnist Larry Brown, who'll argue that Democrats should not seek impeachment at this time, and John Bonifaz , Democratic candidate f or secretary of state, who will speak on the process itself. The audience is invited to get into the act after the speak- ers make their remarks , and organizers hope Cape politicians will tell them where they stand. You could sell tickets to an event like this, but admission is free. Delahunt: Impeach Congress instead U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt may look like a flaming radical to critics of his dealings with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, but some Cape Codders think he 's being too conservative in not calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. When the topic came up at a civil liberties forum in Falmouth last week , the Quincy Democrat made his feelings plain. "We currently live in a single-party nation ." he said. "There are no checks and balances when you have a single-part y nation. My hope is in this November 's election we impeach this Congress. " Delahunt quoted former House Speaker Newt Gingrich , who said an impeachment effort this year would translate into a gain of seats for Republicans. "I don't want to give the Republicans what they want,"the congressman said. "I want to take back the House , so it won't be a fun two years for President Bush." Dems to honor Forest, Fields Mark Forest, U.S. Congressman Bill Delahunt'schief of staff and Dr. Jacqueline Fields, vice chair of the new Barnstable County Human Rights Commission , will be honored at the Cape and Islands Democratic Council's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner at the Radisson Hotel on Route 28 in Hyannis May 6 at 6:30 p.m. The keynote speakers will be Delahunt and State Treasurer Tim Cahill.
