Association hold a dinner mooting
last night at the Cape Cod Inn , at
which the members voted to join
as a group tho Cape Cod Chamber
of Commerce. By this action tho
association became the third large
business group to join the Chamber
within tho last fow weeks.
Guest speaker was Norman II.
Cook, executive socrotary of tho
Chamber of Commerce, who, in do-
scribing the organization , explained
that the record budget of $45,000
for 1949 called for a greatly in-
creased advertising and promo-
tional program for the coming sum-
mer vacation season us woll as for
this year'B Indian Summer promo-
tion.

Cross, held April 15, Edwin 8. My-
cock reported as chairman of the
recent Fund Drive.
The total amount collected as of
that date was slightly over 124,000.

Hospital Opens Bids
NEW BRU8HBREAKER
A now brushbreaker has been
acquired by the County Commis-
sioners and la at the West Barn-
I stable Station. Two others are at
Orleans and Falmouth .respec-
tively.
The brushbreaker type of truck
was perfocted by Charles L. Cherry
of Kingston, district forester for
this nrea In the Massachusetts De-
partment of Forestry. The first
one, designed by Mr. Cherry In
1934, was built In 1936. It proved so
successful that In 1938 the Legis-
lature appropriated funds to build
a better one.
Meantime Chief Bernard S. Ames
of Ostervllle built a brushbreaker
In 1937. Chief Ames supervised the
building of the first two Barnstable
County brushbreakorB, licenses for
the building of which were secured
from Mr. Cherry.
Barnstable County 's first brush-
breaker was purchased in 1940.
Civic-minded Cape citizens, both
year-round and summer residents,
then contributed funds for pur-
chase of tho second machine, de-
livered in 1942.
Tbe Barnstable County Commis-
sioners are Walter R. Nickerson of
South Denis, chairman ; William
J. Lockhart of Falmouth and Mr. H.
Heyworth Backus of Centervllle.

Activities
Two weed control clinics will be
held Monday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m.
at Wilbur Jones' Bog, Route 28,
about four miles west of Hyannis
traffic circle; and at 2:00 p.m. at
Calvin Bldredge's bog, Bank Street,
Harwich Center, next to saw mill.
Dr. Chester Cross will discuss
chemical treatment of weeds and
show results of previously treated
plots.
