Talk with many folks
about what it is that
"¦ drew them to the Cape
¦
Wand they will tell you it is
the water. There is just some-
thing mag ical about long
expanses of soft sand being buf-
feted by frothy waves and calm
harbors glistening in the sun.
Unfortunately, even if you 're luck y
enoug h to live on Cape Cod, waterfront
property isn 't always an option , beg-
ging the question of how to capture that
feeling when you live a good distance
from shore.
Water gardens are becoming an in-
creasing ly popular option for creating
a relaxing back yard environment that
combines a number of natural elements
for a trul y uni que landscape .
Whether you 're looking for a small
pond , large pool or a simp le waterfall ,
there are numerous options to choose
from. It should be noted , however , that
creating a water garden is no small feat ,
nor is it inexpensive. But the result s can
be well worth the cost and efforts.

rope border where you want your wa-
ter garden to go and lea ving it in place
while you th ink.
"Consider it for at least a week. " she
said. The waiting period will allow for
ideas in regard s to desi gn , plantings
and location.
If you are certain a water garden is
what your landscape needs , the next
step is to determine the layout of your
land. If the ground is level w here you
want your garden to go , that is a plus.
Otherwise it ma\ be best to call in
landscapers with experience in the in-
stallation of water gardens. Building a
water garden requires much thoug ht and
planning as there are many elements to
consider , and a good deal of equi pment
to purchase.

kind in the garden '.' How about fish?
What is the li ght like in the section ol
yard where the garden is going ? How will
the garden be eared for in your absence
and during the chang ing seasons '.'
Obviousl y, all water gardens beg in
with a hole in which the water will go.
