CONGRATULATIONSto the committee of
devoted parents who ran the very success-
ful BWB "Night Out" Auction last Friday.
They will send out a final summary at a
later date.
"THE WALK": Would you please support
"The Walk"? On the week-end of May 20, 1
am doing the Avon 2 Day Walk for Breast
Cancer. I need your help. Having my legs
move for 2 days (26-39 miles) is not too
difficult. As a cancer survivor, I am very
motivated to do this for other patients and
their families, but each participant must
raise a minimum of $1,800 and this is why
I'm asking for your help. If you would like
to donate, please write a check to Avon
Walk for Breast Cancer and send it to me
here at BWB. I will mail it in to the Avon
Foundation that is sponsoring this walk.
I will be wearing a T-shirt, and on it I'll
write the names of people I know whose
lives have been affected by this disease.
If you would like me to add any names of
those who have fought the cancer battle,
I'd be honored to have their names on the
shirt and keep them in my mind and heart
as I walk each mile. Know your support is
greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Sue Parke
(Second Grade Teacher)

Assessments. They all worked very hard
and we can be proud of their effort. The

will be given during the three-week period
starting on May 15th. Please do not plan
any non-emergency medical appointments
or family days during that time.
GRADE 2 -ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: Monday,
Wednesday and Thursday, Diane Postoian
visited all of the second grade classrooms
as part of our 2005/2006 Artist in Residence
series. She read stories with the students
and helped them develop their recall and
listening skills through the use of panto-
mime, storytelling, story dramatization,
and improvisation.
VOLUNTEERS: Hyannis West continues its
tradition of community and family par-
ticipation in the life of our school. For the
month of March our volunteer log-in book
showed 507 hours and the Barnstable High
School Community Service students put in
166 hours. This brings our total volunteer
hours for the year up to 3155. This is an-
other reason for the success of our school.
Thank you volunteers!
NEW FUNDRAISERS: The PTO has been
sponsoring a new fundraiser. It iscollect-
ing old cell phones to be recycled , which
can be worth up to $300. We have also put
out a container for people to deposit their

these items are located in our lobby. Keep
bringing in your old cell phones, extra
batteries and used printer cartridges in
an effort to both raise money and protect
our environment.

EMPATHIZE WITH THAT: The school is
working on empathy with the children. One
area in which we need to practice empathy
isthe cafeteria. Weare attemptingto create
a restaurant atmosphere in the cafe rather
than a recess atmosphere. To that end, the
children inMrs.White'sclassheld acontest
to name the cafeteria. The vote was very
close, but Bay Lane Bistro won out.
RECOGNITION: A very special "thank you"
