insurer isn't really respond-
ing to the patient but the
employer."
As Golden's days as a prac-
ticingphysicianwinddown,he
is looking forward to travel-
ing, a special passion of his.
"There 'salways someplace to
go,"he said. "It would be nice
to travel without watching
the clock."
Not that Golden isn't al-
ready well traveled. When he
wasn't checking up on his pa-
tients,he managed to visit the
base camp at Mount Everest ,
go trekking in Bhutan , white-
water raft in Chile, and drive
across the desert of Morocco.
In spite of everything, Golden
doesn't see himself as all that
interesting.
Upon his retirement June
30, Golden plans to turn the
practice over to a qualified
successor, though asnegotia-
tions are still in the works he
is not able to say whom.' He
admitted to having difficulty
finding someone. "It'shard to
get people to come to Mas-
sachusetts," he said.
Although Golden is look-
ing forward to adventures
and travels following his last
day in June, there is an as-
pect of his practice that he
will miss. "I will miss seeing
all the patients," he said. "I
have hundreds, thousands of
memories to last a lifetime.
It's hard to leave the people
you know so well."

It was sort of a Christmas present,
oil and gas prices going down. "They
started dropping about December,
around Christmas," said P Gordon
Nelson Jr. of Nelson Coal & Oil, one
of the bigger fuel oil distributors in
the area. And off and on, they've been
going down ever since. Nelson's firm
is selling No. 2 fuel oil for 90 cents a
gallon. As for gasoline the going rate
is 79 cents a gallon.
