SWEET ON SAILOR'S VALENTINES -Could this be the prettiest Whitman Sampler
ever created? Sorry, it has nothing to do with chocolate and everything to do with
the artistry of Evelyn Way Kendall. The great mid-century collector of seashells
and designers of works such as these gets her due in a new season-long exhibit
at Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, which opens tomorrow.

April Madness at Writers'
Center
Forget March Madness. April is shap-
ing up as a whirlwind for the Cape Cod
Writers ' Center as it celebrates National
Poetry Month.
On the 4th, Fred Marchant, creative
writing director at Suffolk University,
helps Falmouth poet and series host Eric
Edwards kick off four poetry discussions
from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cotuit Center for
the Arts on Route 28. Admission is $10.
Other poets in the series include the
Cape's own Marge Piercy (April 11), 2005
American Book Award winner Lamont
Steptoe (April 25) and the country's poet
laureate, Ted Kooser (May 2).
Marchant will join the Center's "Break-
fast with the Authors" April 7 at 9:30
a.m. at Hyannis Golf Club on Route 132,
and return there on the 8th to teach a
daylong workshop on the meditational
poem, the poetic sequence, and the
prose poem.
And for you youngsters in the audi-
ence (as Ed Sullivan used to say), April
21 is the deadline for applications for the
Center's Young Writers' Workshop, to be
held Aug 21 to 25. The age range is 12
to 16.

Osterville Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Osterville Village
Library hosts weekly book sales in the
library's basement. This week, sales will

Eastham Public Library
The Eastham Public Library has
weekly storytime every Friday at 10:30
a.m. for children up to age 5. A craft
session follows. The library also hosts
a monthly "Magic The Gathering"
trading card game program for ages
11 and up the first Tuesday of each
month from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. All are
free, but you must sign up in advance.

Cape Cod Art Association
The Cape Cod Art Association, 3480
Route 6A in Barnstable, is offering
courses in watercolor painting, oil
painting, life drawing, digital photog-
raphy and more. The Association is
accepting student members ages 14
to 22 with a membership fee of $15
a year, which includes discounts on
classes, newsletter subscription and
ability to exhibit and sell work. Call

New show for Miller
Denton Miller's latest photography,
collected in "Elements 2006," will
have its debut April 7 from 6 to 9
p.m. at Gallery 337 on Main Street
in Hyannis. Recently, Miller won the
2006 Cape Cod Art Association 's
Winter Member 's Show first place in
photography.

its second Artist Members Show for
2006 through April 3 at its galleries at

Multiple works will be featured in the

What's up at the Cahoon?
The Cahoon Museum of American
Art, 4676 Route 28 in Cotuit , offers
docent tours every Friday at 11 a.m.
Classes include Sailor's Valentine,
folk painting, watercolor, bird carving,
and more. An display of fiber art that
focuses on faces and figures is on
exhibit through May 14. Eve Pearce, a
tapestry weaver from Vermont, shows
slides of her work April 4 at 11 a.m.
