PRESCHOOL SCREENING: The Barnstable
Public Schools will hold a screening for any
3 and 4 year old residing in the Town of
Barnstable who may have difficulties that
interfere with learningor seem to lag behind
their peers in development. Parents or care-
givers who have concerns about their child's
speech, language, physical, social or cogni-
tive development should refer their child to
the screening team. If your child is eligible
(turning 5 years old before 9/1/06) to attend
Kindergarten in the Fall, please contact
your child's school to discuss any concerns.
Screening is free to all residents in the town
of Barnstable and is highly recommended
for children who may have specialeducation
needs. An appointment must be made. For
further information,call508-790-6494. Ifyour
child is three or four years old and would
benefit from Special Education Services,
he/she can receive those services now.

SPRING HAPPENS: School Spirits were
brightened bythe celebration of St.Patrick's
Day with the wearing of the green and by
the March 20 recognition of the first day
of Spring.
TONE CHIMES CHOIR: The Marion Jordan
Charitable Foundation continues to fund
our Tone Chimes Choir and Grade 4 Re-
corder Group throughout the year. Under
the direction of music teacher Mrs. Marge
Dolby, the students have performed at the
Holiday Concert in December and are now
preparing for the Spring Concert.
FUND-RAISER:Anew fund-raisersponsored
by the PTO allowsyou to contribute to the
school'sspecialprogramswhileshoppingfor
your groceries at The Stop & Shop stores
in the area. Order forms obtained through
the school can be filled out for debit cards
(Scrip) in the amounts of $5, $10, $20, $25,
$50 or $100. After you purchase goods for
the entire amount of the card, The Stop &
Shop will send a percentage of the sale to
the PTO. Invite your relatives and friends
to join in this drive to provide enrichment
activities for the children of Cotuit/Marstons
Mills Elementary.

During this program , 4th graders will also
sponsor a Bake Sale to help raise money

From PTO: The annual "Make a Change"
fundraiser for the Jimmy Fundruns through
April 30. Every classroom has a collection
can. The Massachusetts classroom that
collects the most change for the Jimmy
Fund will receive tickets to a 2006 Red Sox
game at Fenway. Please help your children
participate by sharing change collected in
your pockets, purses and cars. To learn

SPAGHETTIDINNER:Pricefor admissionwill
be $5 for everyone. It is to be held March
3It atthe Barnstable High School Cafeteria.
Also, tickets will be sold for the pumpkin
walk so the kids and parents, don't need
to bring rolls of quarters this year!!
PARKING LOT SAFETY: Right now, the
parking lot does have a sign that is keeping
the flow of traffic going one way, however,
it is still a hazard to the parents walking
their children into the school. There needs
to be a better solution to the parking lot
procedure. A small task force of parents
and teachers has been formed see if there
are more options
GOLFCLASSIC :The Golf Tournament/Auc-
tion willbe held Friday,May 19.The price of
golf has been lowered from $200 per person
to $150. This willnot include the $25 ticket
to the dinner and Auction, but does include
lunch, a t-shirt

General Announcements: MCAS Testing
-March 27-31: The children in grades 3 & 4
willstart the Reading and English Language
Arts part of the MCAS test on March 27th.
Please make sure that the children are in
school on time and well rested in order to
participate fully.
THE YEARBOOK COMMITTEE islooking for
photographs. Please send in any photos of
school field trips, classroom events, etc. to
be incorporated into the collages.
SPECIAL EVENTS: The Eighth Annual Spa-
ghetti Dinner will be held on Friday, April
7th from 6-8 p.m. in the Barnstable High
School Cafeteria. This event is sponsored
by the Centerville Elementary PTO and has
become an annual event not to miss. Please
join us for a delicious dinner served by our
teachers,followed bythe famous"cakewalk."
We will also have a silent auction and raffle
items. Tickets are on sale now!
RECOGNITION:Aspecialthankyouto Jacque-
line Davies, author of the book The Boy Who
Drew Birds, who met with our second and
third graders. The second graders learned
about the paintings of birds and their nests
and alsohow Ms. Davies'interest in birds led
her to become a writer. The third graders
learned about her life as a writer and how
they can become writers too.
THANKYOU: Also,thank you to the Cape Cod
Symphony Brass Ensemble for visiting with
our third and fourth graders. In April, the
children will attend a Cape Cod Symphony
performance at Barnstable High School.
IMPORTANT MEETINGS: The Centerville
Elementary PTO will meet on Wednesday,
April 12, from 6:45-8 p.m. in the school
cafeteria. Please join us to find out what
we have planned for the rest of the year.

NEW FUND-RAISERS: The PTO issponsor-
ing a new fund-raiser at our school. They
have found a company that recycles cell
phones. They have informed us that some
phones are worth up to $300. Part of the
recycling initiative is an effort to dispose of
the batteries of these phones properly.We
have also put out a container for people to
deposit their used up printer cartridges.
The boxes for these items are located in our
lobby. Solets everybody bring in our old cell
phones, extra batteries and used printer
cartridges in an effort to both raise money
and protect our environment.

Project; as you enter the lobby of BHMCS
to the left is a display case of the service
men and women from our community serv-
ing their country. These are the mothers,
fathers,sons,daughters,brother and sisters
of our students and staff. They are our
neighbors. Thank you to Ms. McEachern
and her students for this most thoughtful
tribute to our citizen soldiers.
SPECIAL EVENTS: Ms. Mandeville is again
coordinating a contest for any and all
interested students on the theme: "How
to be a Friend", sponsored by Barnes &
Noble. It is a poetry contest, entries are to
be forwarded to Barnes & Noble no later
than April 5.
RECOGNITION: On March 16,studentsfrom
BHMCS preformed at the Hyannis Rotary
Club luncheon. All performing musicians
were from the BHMCS sixth grade instru-
ment and sting classes. The following
students are congratulated; Julia Beilke,
Carolynn Capparella, Sawyer Lynn, and
Sarah Sawayanagi. A well deserved thank
you goes out to, both, Mr. Machon and Mr.
LeGrand

The last Thursday of each month are the
Board Of Trustees (BOT) meetings in the
libraryof BHMCSpromptly starting7:00am.
There is a need for candidates for openings
as board members; and voices at public

5: We have shifted the traditional date of
our Renaissance Faire in order to avoid
conflicts with other activities that go on
in late June. This year's Faire will run from
3:30-8 p.m. on Friday, May 5. Please call

• Martin J. Flynn Scholarship Fund:
provided scholarships for 28 Barnstable
residents last year.Residents can make a
contribution by marking the Scholarship
Fund box on the front of their tax bills,
then adding the amount contributed to
the tax due. For additional information on
the Martin J. Flynn Scholarship Fund, call
the office of the Town Manager at 508-862-

• Cape Cod Landscape Association Mike
Stacy Memorial Scholarship: three $1,500
awards to Cape Cod students who will
pursue a career in the green industry,plus
an award of $500 to a son or daughter of
an Association member.The deadline is

• Nauset Garden Club: $2,000 for a resi-
dent of Cape Cod or the Islands entering
his or her junior or senior year of college
in the 2006-07 academic year and who
is majoring in landscape design, horti-
culture, environment, marine or related
sciences, or enrolled in a graduate pro-
gram in the same studies. Applications
